"I'm really glad you decided to call, Kellin. It's been far too long," My mom said as she sat across from me in Rocket Café. She had been here a whole five seconds and it was already awkward.
"Yeah well, I guess I've just been busy and stuff. How have you been?" I asked, being sweeter than normal.
"Good, good. Things have been the same as normal, really. Rob's doing fine too and your sister is in her final year of college. She misses you," she said. Maybe she wouldn't have to miss me if you didn't send me away.
"I miss her too," I said simply. She sighed, looking at me thoughtfully
"Why haven't you called?" she sighed, "I mean, I know you were angry with me, but it's been so long. What have you been doing?"
"Uh...I've just been busy. I moved in with Oliver and was just working and stuff. I was kind of hectic," I said. The conversation was getting difficult. Now that we were talking about the past I was reminded of how she was the cause of everything in my life fucking up. If it wasn't for her I would have still been with Vic. I wouldn't have turned to being in a relationship with an abusive prick. I wouldn't be struggling financially. She abandoned me. The longer I was looking at her, the longer I was annoyed.
"Right, Oliver...and how is he?" she asked, but she didn't like Oliver. Her interest wasn't real.
"We broke up," I told her.
"Oh, sorry to hear that," she said with fake sweetness. I was still keeping the peace, so I bit my tongue.
"Yeah, it's for the best really," I said.
"Right, so if you aren't together anymore, where are you staying?" she asked curiously.
"With a friend, but I'm starting to really overstay my welcome," I said. All hell would break loose if I told her I was staying with Vic. Still, despite not telling her the truth, her expression still changed to one of annoyance. She rolled her eyes at me and sighed.
"I see, so you called me because you need a place to stay?" she accused.
"No, no. I called you to mend our relationship...but, but yeah...I kind of do need a place to stay, I guess," I said. She stood up and scoffed. She didn't believe what I was saying. I hardly believed what I was saying. She looked down at me menacingly.
"You think you can go all this time not talking to me, then just walk back into mine and Rob's life because we're a last resort?" she scolded.
"To be fair, it's your fault I'm in this mess. You sent me away. You took everything away from me. You owe me!" I whispered harshly. I just wanted to blow up at her, but this was my workplace. I couldn't let my workmates see me at my worst, even if I'm not working today. I still wanted to act somewhat professional.
"I don't owe you anything. I sent you away to make you better. But clearly nothing has changed," she said. I couldn't believe this.
"You have no idea what's changed," I said in a shaky voice. My anger was rising.
"I'm leaving, Kellin. Call me again when you actually want to work on our relationship and not because you want something from me," she snapped. With that she turned around and marched out of the café. I just wanted to tear my hair out. After she gave up on parenting I thought that maybe she'd have some sort of remorse or guilt and want to make things better. That wasn't the case though. I guess I'm stuck with Vic and Leo. I sighed in frustration and gathered my things before leaving; heading home.

"Fucking seriously? Can one thing just go right today?" I growled. All I wanted to do was have a nice, relaxing shower and spend the rest of my day doing nothing. I had no work and no classes. I simply wanted to chill out, but when I went into bathroom and tried turning the shower on, it wouldn't work. I heard clinking behind the walls every time I turned the faucets.
