Chapter Seventeen

I came to my senses and released myself from Tim's grasp and gaze. "Tim, we haven't even gone on a date yet. Do you really expect me to kiss you?"

Tim looked disappointed but he did smile. "OK, if it's a date you want, it's a date you'll get. I'll pick you up Friday night at 7 and after it's over, I expect a full-fledged make out session, because I haven't hooked up with a girl since the chick on your locker."

I scoffed. "That was like two days ago. Are you that much of man whore that you need to hook up with a girl every single second of the day."

He smiled. "I'm a teenage boy. I have needs."

"You're seventeen, Tim, practically an adult. You should have outgrown this stage years ago."

Tim smiled. "I think I'm going to be going through this "stage" for the rest of my life. Although, I think I might reach the point were I only want to be with the same girl for every second of every day."

I stared at Tim. I wondered what he meant by this. Did he want to hook up with just me and not any other girls? Or was there another girl?

"Ok, ok," I said, plucking up my notebook and heading towards the black desk ensemble that Tim had in the left corner of his room, "Less talk of your love life, and more talk about Benford and Zipf."

Tim followed behind me and the rest of the night, we -well, less me and more he- worked on the project. I was completely lost, while Tim was writing down all these numbers and variables and equations and I just sat backwards in a red chair on wheels and nodded my head like I actually knew what was going on.

I watched as Tim's big, but graceful hands held his pencil and swiftly moved across my notebook with his head ducked low and his fully dried hair flopping in his face. Every now and then, he would push it up, but it would fall right back down. I was tempted to lend him some of my purple pre-wrap.

Eventually he got so frustrated with his hair he kept one hand holding it up while he leaned on his elbow and jotted stuff down, occasionally glancing at the computer screen. "Hey, Tim, do you want to borrow a headband?" I asked.

He shushed me and continued to work. I was so surprised. I knew that Tim was smart. I mean he was in Statistics AP with me. That was the highest level math class you could take at WHS and he was also in some other smart classes, like Biology 2 and Physics 2. But, I never really though of Tim as the Albert Einstein he was. I mean, he was one of the most popular guys at school, star of the football field, and always had a girl on his arm and in his bed. Plus, he was the cockiest guy I had ever met in my life. But, deep down, he was a hardcore nerd who yearned to be loved.

I glanced at my watch and gasped. It was 11:05. My dad was going to kill me. "Tim, I really need to go, like right now." I jumped up and grabbed my back pack and plucked up my notebook from Tim's hands.

I was about to sprint out the door when Tim yelled out, "Jasmine, wait!"

I turned around with my mind swimming with all the things my dad would do to me when I got home. "What?"

"Can we meet again tomorrow?" He asked. He was standing in his doorway with his hands in the pockets of his sweats and his eyes looking droopy and tired.

"I think we got enough done tonight. We don't have to get together every night. We have a month," I said, quickly bouncing up and down on the balls of my feet, hoping that Tim would shut up and let me go.

"Not for the project, for something else," he said.

"What?" I asked.

"I have to teach you how to dance for the ball at the end of the month," he said, smiling at me, "It'll only be a couple of hours. I just have to show you some simple stuff."

"I honestly don't know, Tim. My dad is going to be pretty pissed when I get home tonight. It's past my curfew and he'll probably lock me up for the next week, but I'll text you and let you know."

"Ok," he said with a knowing and sympathetic look in his eye, "Goodnight, Jasmine."

"'Night, Tim," I said before sprinting out of his mansion and to my car.

I was so dead.
