Harry gave me the silent treatment this morning, and the tension in the air was so thick that you could cut it with a dull knife.
After our failed talk inside of my car yesterday evening, the rain eventually settled long enough for me to quickly get back to the house, with Harry following somewhat closely behind me in his own car. Neither of us spoke a word as he carried some of the bags from the back of the car inside of the house, but thankfully Eloise was there to ease the tension and distract the both of us from our own problems. I missed having her in the house and all, but I was starting to remember how nice it felt to just have some peace and quiet, and to be able to focus on myself again. I had gotten so used to putting all of my attention and focus on her that I was neglecting my own wants and needs, but regardless of that, I loved Eloise and I was very glad to have her here where I could keep an eye on her.
When Harry left this morning after saying goodbye only to Eloise, I felt like curling up into a ball and crying my eyes out for not coming clean to him yesterday when I had the chance. I was just afraid that he would reject me and then fire me since it would be awkward to work with someone who often imagined how nice it would feel to be kissed and held by their boss, but now I was regretting not taking that chance.
I still didn't fully understand what he meant when he said that he would see me in his office today at two o'clock, but maybe he would come home before then and pull me aside in his study to talk about it with a clearer head. I assumed that that's what he meant, so I continued on with my day like any other, except for the fact that it wasn't just any old day, but one that was filled with a lot of inner turmoil that caused me to feel sort of spaced out. Eloise played in her bedroom with her pretend kitchen set that one of her family members bought for her on her birthday, and as she made a cup of tea for one of her dolls, I heard a knock coming from the front door at one o'clock to be exact. When Eloise heard it too she turned around with widened eyes and exclaimed, "Who is it?"
I stood up from the rocking chair that was in her bedroom and pursed my lips, "I don't know, bug."
She put her toy cup down and started running towards the door, but I caught her before she could get any further, "You stay right here while I answer it, okay?" I knew that she wanted to be nosy and see who our company could be, but just in the slim chance that it was someone who could cause any sort of harm or danger to her, I insisted that she stay in here while I take care of it. It might be a silly thing to fear since there was no danger surrounding this family that I knew of, but since I wasn't expecting anyone to stop by and neither was Harry, I didn't want to take any chances.
She pouted, but I ignored her little temper tantrum so that I could hurry down the stairs to answer the door. On the other side stood a young girl around my age with pin straight brown hair that reached her shoulders, bangs across her forehead, and a big smile that resembled one that I've seen a couple of times before. I couldn't quite put my finger on it, but since I've never met this girl before I just assumed that she had a familiar looking face.
"Yes, can I help you?" I asked her, trying to be polite even though I was still a little nervous. The girl seemed harmless and all, but I didn't want to let my guard down, not even for a second, until I knew who she was and what she was doing here.
"You must be Olsen, the nursemaid!" She greeted me very chirpily, and extended her small hand out towards me. I hesitated to shake it but I did anyway, and she continued to speak, "Harry asked if I could watch Eloise for a few hours today. He said something about you having an appointment at two o'clock?"
I was stunned, "Um, what?"
She giggled, "My name is Annie by the way, I've known Harry for a long time since my brother is his best friend and all. I think you've met him before actually, his name is Louis?"
