Hiccup sat on a log and set up a fire pit. The snow didn't seem to bother him, he had become accustomed to the cold. The odd thing was, though, it wasn't the season for snow. It was the middle of summer. During this time, it should've been hailing.
It was also the middle of the day, the sun had been out for a while and the snow was showing no signs of melting.
He stopped thinking about the indestructible snow and went back to making his fire. He got Toothless to use his fire breath to start it and it immediately bursted into flames. When it did, Hiccup expected the snow around the fire to melt, but it didn't.
"That's weird." Hiccup said. Toothless tilted his head at the fire as if he knew what his human friend was talking about.
"Wouldn't the fire melt the snow?" Hiccup asked, looking at Toothless. "I might have not been the best at science, but I know that this snow should be melting." Toothless shrugged his small shoulders and lied down. Hiccup scratched his chin.
"Whatever." He said. He put his elbow on his knee and rested his head in the palm of his hand. A few hours passed and the sun was beginning to set.
"I guess it's time to go to bed Toothless." Hiccup said. He turned around to motion his friend to go to bed, but to his surprise, Toothless was sound asleep.
Hiccup let out a small chuckle and walked to his tent. He took off his armor and lied down in his makeshift bed. This one was only meant for one, as was the tent.
He closed his eyes, but to his luck, he couldn't fall asleep.
Another hour passed and Hiccup was still wide awake. He was worried about Berk. As much as he didn't want to admit it, he regretted leaving. After debating with himself, he decided that it would be best if he went back home.
He sat up and opened his small tent. Just as he was about to wake his dragon to leave, something caught his eye.
There was a strange glow coming from the surrounding forest. Hiccup glanced at his reptile, then back at the strange light.
He decided to let his friend sleep as he went to see what the light was.
He walked towards the glow and stopped right in front of it.
It was a light blue orb-like creature that seemed to be floating in midair. Hiccup reached out to touch it, but when his hand got close to the creature, it vanished.
That's when he saw another one not far ahead. He lightly jogged towards this one and tried to touch it again, but the same thing happened.
They seemed to be forming a pathway to somewhere Hiccup was determined to get to.
He began to run through the forest, following these blue lights until they suddenly stopped appearing.
Hiccup looked around where the last one disappeared. He saw an opening to a medium-sized cave. He looked around him to see if anyone was watching or if anyone was there, but found no one.
Before entering the cave, he grabbed his inferno sword from his leg pocket and lit it.
The flames lit up the cave. From the outside, the cave looked normal. Hiccup thought nothing of it and decided to go inside the cave. He debated going back and getting his dragon for protection, but decided that it'd be better if he just explored by himself.
They were on an abandoned island, what could happen?
When Hiccup entered the cave, he saw something he was not expecting.
The inside of the cave, about 300 feet in, was covered in ice. It wasn't just any normal ice, it was sparkling ice that seemed to have patterns of snowflakes inside of it. He couldn't see his own reflection, which also wasn't normal.
