My eyes were cold as I marched down the basement steps, not a trace of emotion anywhere on my face. I told Ethan to stay upstairs while I took care of this little problem of ours. So, she really had the balls to escape this early, huh? Isn't that funny? Still, this was too close a call. I can't let her leave and tell anyone about what we've done. Something has to put her back into place.
I paused at the bottom of the staircase when I saw the figure curled up on the mattress, her shaking shoulders and hands that clutched her arms so tightly, the nails left crescent shaped indents on the skin. I couldn't tell if she realized if it was me or Ethan, or if she knew that anyone was here at all. She said nothing in greeting, not even a "fuck you." A smirk tugged at the corner of my lips at the thought. The look of hatred in her eyes would've been comical too, but this was just sad.
"Y/N." I called her name softly, not giving away too much of my anger, but it was a little short. The girl flinched, body going stiff. "I heard we had a little incident today." I walked towards her, cautious. Ethan said her hands were not tied up anymore. I wasn't too concerned if she decided to rush me, but I wouldn't put it past her to try. I wouldn't go down easy, and she wouldn't get far anyway with Ethan standing watch on the other side of the door. I would signal him if there was trouble.
"I... I'm sorry," she squeaked, turning meek on me all of a sudden. The sight before me is so pitiful. If I wasn't so damn upset, I'd want to wrap her up tightly in my arms. Where was her rage now? It made me suspicious.
"Tell me honestly," I request in a kinder voice as I squat down beside her. "Ethan didn't hurt you, did he?" I swear if he did and didn't tell me... It wouldn't be good for us at all. It's hard to manipulate someone into liking you when they keep getting hurt. The only way to get Y/N back with us is to kill her with kindness, make her feel safe, and if Ethan starts playing the bad guy... Well, I'll have no other choice than to use that to my advantage. If he wants to act stupid, I'll be fine to drive her into my arms instead. I hold that thought for now. It's not like I mind sharing her with him. It just gets inconvenient sometimes. First, I need to get down to the bottom of this escape attempt.
