Bruce was pinned by the metal, crushing his legs. He couldn't get it off himself and was going into shock. It would take a very strong individual or an entire group of people to get it off him and bring him to safety. Something had to be done before Bruce could pass out, there had to be a plan or impulsive heroic action. You had to be the one to do it.
