I stood there in shock as Liam kissed me. I was stunned, to say the least.
Before I registered what I was doing, I was kissing Liam back. My arms wrapped around his neck, pulling him closer, and he backed me up against the wall.
His hands moved down to my waist, and I pulled him impossibly closer. Our lips moved in sync, and I was slowly forgetting why we were arguing in the first place.
I heard him growl slightly in the back of his throat and felt his claws digging into my sides. It didn't even phase me, and I let out a growl of my own.
My wolf was strangely quiet during this. Usually the wolf in me would be attacking the guy who was kissing me or yelling at me for kissing the guy back, but my wolf seemed happy. More than happy, it was ecstatic.
I kissed Liam back, and a sudden feeling like cold water rushed over me. I was making out with Liam. Liam, my best friend. Liam, the guy who's been there for me since day one, and who I've sworn I'd never hurt romantically.
Feeling dizzy, I pushed Liam away. My wolf protested against my actions, but I ignored it.
"I'm sorry," I said. "We shouldn't have done that. It was a mistake."
"Hayley-" Liam started.
"I gotta go," I said and ran out the door.
My wolf was growling at me, yelling at me to go back, but I ignored it. After what just happened, I was too embarrassed to talk to Liam about it. I mean, I just made out with my best friend. It was humiliating.
I ran off into the woods, as it's the place where I always go to when I run off. I'm surprised Brooke and Liam haven't figured that out yet. Brooke seems to be catching on, but Liam is just stupid and doesn't know where to look.
Liam. Why can't I stop thinking about him? Just this morning I was perfectly fine around him. He made us coffee and everything was normal. Well, besides the Cherry Pie incident, everything was normal. I still can't believe Mr. Brown did that. What was he thinking?!
Then he had to go and ruin it by kissing me. I was trying to figure out my feelings, and now he complicated them further. Yeah I kissed him back, but I don't really know why I did.
Maybe it had something to do with the whole new mates thing. It would explain a lot. I knew I had to find Brooke and Josh and ask them about this at once.
I got out my phone and texted Brooke: hey where r u?
Mall with Josh, she said. U ok?
Yeah, I need to talk 2 u. Meet u there?
Yep. C u in 10?
I'll b there.
I put my phone away and shifted into my wolf. I ran at full speed towards the mall and shifted into my human form once I reached the woods surrounding the mall. Can't have any humans freaking out.
I walked into the mall and followed Brooke's scent to the food court. Her and Josh were eating a churro and were in dark sweatshirts and were wearing matching hats with a red B on them.
They were laughing, and Brooke looked really happy. I smiled, thinking of me and Liam being like that.
I shook my head fiercely, pushing away the images of Liam and me as a couple, and walked towards Brooke and Josh.
"Hey," I said.
"Sup, Hales," Brooke said.
"How's it goin'?" Josh greeted. "What do you think, hats or no hats?"
"Hats definitely," I said. "Makes you two look cute."
"I know right, that's what I said!" Brooke said. "So, what's up?"
"I need to talk to you," I said.
"Okay, do we need to go somewhere private?" she asked.
I looked at Josh and decided since he was gonna be apart of the pack I might as well start accepting him and telling him things.
"It's fine," I said. "Me and Liam were arguing and it got really intense, and then he, um..."
"He what?" Brooke demanded.
"He kissed me..." I said. "And I may have kinda sorta kissed him back."
"Oh my god," Brooke said. "Oh my god! OH MY GOD!"
Her voice rose with each word. Josh covered her mouth, and I nodded in thanks.
"Shut up, I think Canada heard you loud and clear," I said.
"Sorry," she said. "I'm just surprised. What happened exactly. I need details!"
"Okay, even I gotta hear this," Josh agreed.
I smiled slightly and retold the entire story for them. Starting with my One Tree Hill marathon and ending with me running here.
"And that's what happened," I summed up. "Now I don't know what the hell to do."
"Talk to Liam about it," Brooke said.
"Even I wouldn't do that," Josh agreed. "That's social suicide. My advice is to just act like it never happened and run for it everytime he brings it up."
"Good strategy." I turned to Brooke. "I like him."
Brooke smiled, but said, "I don't think it's a good choice to run from this. I know running is your favorite thing to do in situations like this, but Liam is your best friend. You need to talk to him about this."
"Or not," I said.
"Hayley," she said.
"Brooke," I mimicked.
"Talk to him. For me. Please. Don't let this get awkward between you two."
"Say you were drunk," Josh advised.
Brooke slapped his arm. "You're not helping."
"Actually, I quite like his advice," I said.
Brooke pointed a finger at Josh. "You stop giving Hayley bad advice on how to handle this and you," she said, turning to me, "talk to Liam about this before I spike your coffee with truth serum and make you spill all your dirty little secrets. Understand?"
"Yes ma'am," Josh and I both said.
She nodded once. "Good. Now, go be a good girl and talk to Liam. And call me right after you do. Better yet, put me on FaceTime while you're talking."
I laughed. "Whatever you say, Bree."
"FaceTime me!" she called after me. "Remember that!"
I laughed and walked out of the mall. I was feeling better and was going to talk Liam when my phone rang.
"Hello?" I said, answering it.
"Hayley?" a voice asked.
I frowned. "Who's this?"
"Don't talk, just listen," the voice said. "Something very important has happened."
"What's going on?" I demanded.
"No time for questions," the voice said. "Just listen very carefully..."
