THE AIR CONDITIONING OF the Wheeler's house was a blessing to the skin after Cassie Harrington rode her bike a few miles in the blazing heat of the sun. After advancing through the basement window, a wave of nostalgia pleasantly rushed through her mind.

"Going back to your old ways?" Mike acknowledged as she climbed through the small space.

Cassie smirked, "Looks like it."

Sinking down into Mike's couch in the basement, the auburn haired girl let out a happy sigh.

"Hey, Cassie," Mike greeted the girl, wrapping his arms around her.

Wiggling out of his grasp, Cassie said to the boy, "Ew, don't touch me I'm all sweaty and gross from all the damn humidity!"

"Don't forget the first time I kissed you, you were covered in blood." Mike remembered, letting out a light chuckle.

Mentioning that moment awakened the memory of that night, echos of those demo dogs in the hospital hallways jarred her mind. She remembered the feeling of Mike's lips pressing against hers for the first time, wiping away the panic completely.

It's crazy how much he had an affect on her. The girl smiled, "Nothing can stop you, Wheeler."

Mike linked his fingers into Cassie's hand and shot her a look of admiration, "Nope. I guess not."

Suddenly, Mike grabbed Cassie's hand tighter and stood, beginning to lead her up the stairs. Cassie felt confused until Mike turned back, there was no doubting that look, he had a idea.

"Let's go do something fun today."

"Don't you remember? It's a thousand degreed outside!"

"So, we'll find something to do that involves something cold."

When arriving upstairs, the two teenagers moved into the kitchen. From their view they could see two figures standing in the area, Mrs. Wheeler and her daughter, Holly.

Holly is slumped at the breakfast table, her brows creased as her eyes focused on the coloring book in front of her. When Mrs. Wheeler sits, coffee in hand, she asks in her usual light and casual tone, "Hey, Holly, whatcha up to?"

Holly quietly answers, "I think I want to go swimming today. Or I should color."

Mrs. Wheeler takes another sip and then continues, "I think going to the pool today is a great idea. Which one do you want to do?"

Holly frowns, "I don't know!"

"Hey, Mike," Cassie nudged the boy. "We should go to the pool today. It's perfect!"

Groaning, the boy looked towards her, "With my family? Seriously?"

Cassie laughed. "We won't have to sit by them, we can sit somewhere else. Come on, it'll be fun!"
