Necromancy

Toby hadn't left Jack's side for a while, and while Jack was happy to have him around, it was kindof hard to focus. Most days, Toby sat on a pillow on the floor next to him, reading a book. He practiced making things levitate, it was all he knew how to do for now, and Jack didn't mind it really. Still, this was the third time today that he had mispriced something, and while it wasn't Toby's fault, he wished he could say something about it.

Toby leaned against the wall, turning the page to a very thick book. It was slightly torn, and it's pages smelled of vanilla. Jack just stared at him, Toby couldn't tell since Jack didn't have any eyes, but he still felt like ... "I feel like somethings watching me" Toby said, closing the book slightly. Jack just shrugged, looking away, " it's probably nothing" he said, trying not to sound guilty. Toby hummed ... " If you wanna learn how to do something else- then you should try to find out what your element is" Jack said. Toby tilted his head, "my element?" He said. Jack nodded, "have you gotten to that chapter yet?" He asked. Toby shook his head, "well there are six elements" Jack started, " life, death, earth, fire, water, and ... um- hmm what was that last one-" He shrugged, "i guess i forgot-" he mumbled. Toby stopped ... " Was it electricity?" Jack said. "Yeah, electricity, oh- and Time- but don't mess with Time- It's a waste of ... Energy" Jack said.

Toby shrugged, and Jack looked away, "anyway- you should go somewhere- see what you connect with- either that or go get one of those witches to tell you" Jack said. Toby just stared at him ... "You dont wanna come with me?" He asked. Jack shook his head, " i have to watch the shop- but if you need me you can always just come back-" he said. Toby didn't say anything, before getting up, " are you sure you dont wanna come too? What if something happens-" Toby said, the book tucked under his arm. Jack sighed, He's doing it on purpose now, isn't he? " If something happens then run as fast as you can" Jack said. "t-thats so mean" Toby squinted. " Well- what did you want me to say?" Jack leaned back in his chair.

"I j-just- dont like to be alone-" he said. Oh, it made sense now. Jack sighed, 'fine- fine you win- i'll go with you" He said. Toby just smiled, " you wanted to anyway-"

...

Jack knocked on the door of a tall tower, sighing as he pulled his hoodie over his head a little more. The tower was made of stone, moss growing up it's black bricked sides. The door was slightly red tinted wood, it looked stained and chipped off in some areas. There was a thud from the inside, "shit!" Came a voice, before the door slowly opened.

"Oh- it's you- what do you want? Creep" came the voice of a woman. The door opened the rest of the way, she was just as tall as Jack, maybe taller. Long black hair, pale skin, no eyes, black lipstick. Her black dress was slit all the way up to her hip, yet somehow nothing was revealed. She was wearing flat black shoes, one of her feet tapping on the ground, probably thinking about kicking the shit out of Jack. "Ya- hi- can you help him out? Just this once, Jane" Jane looked over at Toby, and instantly lit up, "oh- you're so cute!" She smiled, leaning over to him. She held out her hand, "i'm Jane, why are you hanging out with this creepy guy? Dont you know what he does to cute things like us?" She said. Toby extended his own hand, he was bad with new people, and even worse with people taller than him. "I- i'm his apprentice- and- my name's Toby- nice to meet you i guess" he said, shaking her hand. She paused, and looked over at Jack, who looked away, "oh~? So you're teaching him what? Magic i assume?" She said, glaring at him. " Yeah-" Jack said, clenching his fists.

She hummed, crossing her arms, " so what do you want again?" She asked. Jack sighed, "can you just, tell us what his element is?" Jack said. "Oh- gladly" she said, pulling Toby into her tower. The door slammed, and Jack gasped, " j-Jane! You cant just take him! Open the door" he said, slamming his fists against it.

Toby looked around ... There were so many ... So many books. It was dimly lit with lanterns, and warm, Toby felt sleepy just standing in there. " Well- come with me" Jane said, hovering slightly up the steps.  Toby tensed, never seeing anyone fly before. "Um- okay" he said, looking around. "Did you read all of these books?" Toby asked. Jane looked at him for a second, before smiling, "yes- i've read every book in here ... Books are important to the craft you know, make sure to read every day-" She said. Toby nodded, before flinching as something rubbed up against his leg. He looked down, an orange cat with green eyes purring as it nuzzled itself against Toby. Toby smiled, "it's so cute-" he said, and Jane turned around. "Oh- that's Mrs, Clockwork- come here clocky~" Jane said, holding her arms out. The cat ran for her, jumping into her arms. "She's friendly, but i wouldn't want her to shed on you" Jane said.

Toby looked over, seeing that they were at the top, "man- that was kindof a long walk" He said. Jane nodded, " well- you can sit there" she said, pointing to a chair. Toby moved over, sitting down in the comfortable chair as Jane pulled something off of her shelf. " Would you like some milk? I bet Jack didn't tell you that the key to gathering energy is to have a strong body. Otherwise it all just flows in and gets used quickly. That means youll have to be active" She said, handing Toby a cute little blue mug. Toby looked down into the white liquid ... Why did he feel so sleepy? He hummed tiredly, drinking from the cup. Jane stood next to him, putting a hand on his head. She felt around his hair ... "Oh- your element is ........ Fire- and- oh- you're pretty powerful" she said, pulling her hand back. Toby yawned, "really?" He asked. She nodded, petting his head, "of course- now- if you want to, you can always come back here and run up and down these stairs. I have plenty of books and-" Jane stopped ... "Oh-" she sighed. Toby was asleep, and he looked pretty comfortable.

Just then, the window opened, and Jane rolled her imaginary eyes. Jack panted, "you fucking witch" he said, barely able to hang onto the window. "Don't hurt him! He has nothing to do with us!" He said. Jane groaned, walking over to the window. "I'm not gonna hurt him- unlike you i'm not evil" she said. "Just because i left the cult doesn't make me- AA" Jack slipped as Jane pushed at his face. "i'll die if i fall from here!" He yelled. "Learn how to fly then!" Jane said. Jack growled, before pulling himself through the window. Toby sat up, rubbing his eyes, "huh? I'm sorry-" he said, and they both stopped. Toby yawned, and Jack smiled, so did Jane, but both for different reasons. " Why was he asleep? Did you drain his energy you fucking succubus-" Jack said. Jane hummed, "i have him some milk- he's fine now- you're the one that's been using that powder on him, lecher" Jane said. Toby stared at them as they argued, before getting up. They both stopped again, and the room fell quiet ... " It's fire" Toby said. Jack sighed ... "Alright ... Let's go" he said. Jane huffed, " come back and visit me sometime, Toby- but leave your dog at home" she said. Toby tilted his head, before smiling, "oh- you mean Jack?" He asked. She grinned, and Jack pulled him by his hand, "youre- so mean" me mumbled, sounding almost hurt.

...

Toby held Jack's hand on their walk back to the shop. "Hey- Jack?" Toby asked. Jack hummed in response. "What's a Lecher?" He asked, and Jack stopped for a second.

"It's ... Dont ask me that-!"
