Chapter 7

I walk into my house and hear Dustin and Lucas talking on our walkie talkies. "Meet me and Steve at the old junkyard" he talks to Lucas. With that I'm running out the door and getting on my bike.

I ride to Max's house and get off my bike leaving it on the sidewalk in front of Billy's car.
I walk up to the door and hear rock music playing inside. After a few seconds of wondering if I should ring the doorbell or not I do.

Max's POV

I hear the doorbell ring as I'm fixing my skateboard. The person at the door continues to press the doorbell.
"Max, are you getting that or what?" Billy yells from the living room
"Okay!" I yell back
"Swear to god max!"
The person at the door continues to press the button. As I pass billy I give him a look.
I open the door and see Y/n standing there. I close the door as fast as I opened it and step outside
"What are you doing here?" I ask in a whisper
"I have proof. Lucas may not. But I think I have a way to show you"
"What?"
"Proof about what lucas told you. But we need to hurry"
"What kind of proof?"
"Well...um...I-I don't know yet. But I do have proof. I promise"
"Promise?"
"Yeah I promise. Now come on. We gotta go" she says grabbing my hand making me smile
"Come around to the back window. I'll meet you there. My brother can't know"
"Why?"
"He-He doesn't like you y/n"
"Oh good cause I don't like him either"
I laugh and open the door, rushing inside to see billy walking towards me. I try to walk past but he blocks me
"Who the hell were you talking to?"
"Mormons"
"Mormons?"
"Talkative ones" I say pushing past

I rush to my room and climb out the window to see y/n standing there smiling to herself while sitting on her bike making me smile. She gets off her bike when she spots me about to jump out my window and helps me jump out "thanks" I mumble before walking towards her bike, I hop on the back.
"This better be good stalker" I state whole wrapping my arms around her Waist. But truth be told, I don't mind this, spending time with the beautiful y/e/c eyed girl.

Y/n's POV

As Max and I walk into the Junkyard Steve (who is now like a mother to me), Dustin and Lucas look at max and I
"What are you guys going here"
"Showing Red here proof dusty" I say taking his cap off and putting it on my head backwards. On Halloween I lost my cap and even though I searched practically the whole town I haven't been able to find it anywhere.

Dustin takes Lucas to talk to him behind a car while I stay with max and Steve.
"Hey kid, how's it going?"
"Good momma Steve. How are you?"
"Momma Steve?" Max questions
"Don't ask" Steve says quickly "can I talk to you kid?" Steve asks me. I nod and walk off with Steve "is that the girl kid?"
"Umm"
"It is,isnt it?"
"Umm"
"Umm Umm" steve mocks me
"Yes it is. Her names max. Now don't embarrass me"
"I won't" Steve smirks

We walk back over to max who's got her arms crossed while she watches Steve and I intently. "Hey Max. I'm steve, nice to meet you. Okay so..I'll leave you two alone now" Steve winks at me and walks away making me face palm.
"What was that about?"
"Don't worry. He's probably on drugs or something"
"Okay?"
"We lose light I'm like 40 minutes, let's go!" Steve yells making us follow him

We have just finished making a old bus safer so we can camp out for the night. After a long afternoon I'm laying on one of the empty seats inside the bus waiting for steve to tell us the plan. I'm about to fall asleep when someone picks up my legs and sits down. Putting my legs back down onto their lap. I open my eyes slowly to see max playing with my shoelaces
"You tired?" She asks looking down
"Yeah. You?"
"Not really. You can sleep in my lap if you like" she says blushing lightly making me smile. I jump over the seat in front of me so max can move over, when she does I jump back into the seat I was on before and sit down next to her. I lean over and kiss her cheek before laying my head in her lap and looking up at her slightly red face. I close my eyes and fall asleep quickly. I get woken up my max shaking me.
"Y/n come on. Get up" max says gently
"I'm up" I say sitting up slowly
"Y/n, kid. You're on watch. Get on the roof" Steve states "please" He adds making me smile
"Okay mom" I say climbing the ladder and sitting on the roof with Lucas's binoculars

After a while of sitting on the roof max climbs up the ladder and sits across from me
"It's kinda awesome"
"Huh?"
"The fog, I mean. Looks like the ocean" she says sadly
"You miss it?"
"What?"
"The ocean. The waves? California?" I sigh "Hawkins seems pretty lame, I bet"
"No, no, no. It's not that. It's just...my dads still there so..." she says sadly
"Why?"
"It's this legal term called 'divorce'. See when two married people don't love each other anymore-"
"I know what divorce is Max" I say rolling my eyes
"My mum and my stepdad they wanted a fresh start away from him. As if...as if he was the problem, which is total bull. And things...are just worse now. My stepbrothers always been a dick but now he's just angry...all the time and...well, he can't take it out on my mum, so..."
"So he takes it out on you" I say understanding everything now
"I don't even know why I'm tell you this" she says tears filling her eyes
"it's just...I know that I can be a jerk like him sometimes, and I don't want to be like him, ever. I guess I'm angry too,and...im sorry" she looks at me before whipping her tears "Jesus! What's wrong with me?"
"Hey. You're nothing like your brother okay? You're smart and beautiful and...and perfect and youre not a jerk like at all...you're not mean...you are so kind. A-and totally tubular" I say scooting cowards and whipping her tears. She chuckles and leans into my hand.
"Nobody actually says that you know?"
"Well I do"
"And it makes you super cool"
"I really love spending time with you Red"
"Why do you call me that?"
"Would you rather me call you MadMax?"
"Yes"
"Well, than, I really love spending time with you MadMax"
"I really love spending time with you too, Stalker"
Something growls from a little bit away making max and I turn towards the sound. I grab the binoculars and have a look.
"Y/n! What's going on?" Dustin yells from downstairs
"Hold on!" I yell back
"I've got eyes! Ten o'clock...ten o'clock!"
"Wait you sure it's not a dog?" Max says looking as well
"What?"
The creature makes more noises

"Steve. Oh my god. Steve. What are you doing. You idiot. You butt! Stop. Stop! Steve. No!" I yell as Steve makes his way out of the bus and towards the thing "Steve. You dumbass! You'll get yourself killed! Get inside the bus! Right now! Steve! Come on dude! It's not safe!"
"Come on buddy. Come on, dinner time Human tastes better than cat I promise"
"Oh, my god. No...Steve" I say nearly in tears
I look around with the binoculars. When I hear another sound "Steve, watch out!" I yell when I see more demodogs. "Shit shit shit shit" I swear while putting the binoculars down and trying to think of what to say to get steve to listen
"Steve. There are more!" Max yells
"Steve behind you. Three o'clock!" I y'all trying to get him to listen
The dogs start to surround Steve. "Stay here" I state to Max whole climbing downstairs.
Dustin rushes to the door. I push him out of the way gently and make my way outside
"Steve. Come on! Abort! Abort!" I yell making him look at me
He starts to fight the dogs as we watch in terror "Steve come on! Hurry!" I scream. I can't lose him
"Lucas. Pass me that" I say pointing to a metal pipe. He throws it at me and I catch it. "Thanks" I say quickly before stepping further outside
"y/n no!" Max cry's "I cant lose you! Y/n please no!"
I run towards a demodog that's about to attack steve from behind and hit it with the pipe making it yelp and fly a few feet away. I run up towards Steve after hitting another one "run to the bus in five,four,three,two,one" We make a runner. We make it just in time and Dustin shuts the door
"Shit" Dustin says
Max runs towards me and hugs me tight. Crying into my shirt. I hug her back but let her go when the bus starts to getting hit.
"Go to the back of the bus" I say to everyone as I hold up the metal pipe. Towards where the banging is coming from. A demodog bursts threw a new made gap making me hit it hard. Dustin talks quickly into his walkie talkie while Steve try's to calm everyone down. I hear footsteps on the roof making me look towards max who's looking up. I sprint towards her and push her gently out of the way when I demodog puts its head threw the hole in the roof making max scream. I hit it with the pole and look at max making sure she's okay. I feel something tighten around my hand. I glance down and see it's Max's hand. I puff out my chest slightly and stand straighter hoping i impressed her. Next thing we know the dogs are just walking away. We all look at each other in confusion before rushing towards the windows
"What happened?" Lucas asks
"I don't know" max says
"Y/n scared them off"
"No. No way. They're going somewhere" I state turning to look at them

Two updates in under 24 hours. Woah. Anyways, I just wanted to thank you all so much for the love and support, I really appreciate it. To be honest when I first started this book I was going to delete it because I thought it wasn't going to go anywhere but y'all proved me wrong. Ily all sm 💕 thanks for everything.
