"What?" I whispered feeling his grip loosen on my wrist. "Caden?"
I thought I had somehow been mistaken until he switched on the dimly lit bulb on the ceiling. It was enough for me to make out his face.
"Do you enjoy scaring the shit out of me?" I asked unbelievably.
A small smirk displayed on his lips. "I thought you might like the surprise."
He was back. At school, after so many days.
"Are you back for real?" I asked, narrowing my eyes.
His hand, encircled around my wrist, went lower and took hold of my hand. I tried not to blush at that.
"If I would've been back, I wouldn't have pulled you in." He said.
I ignored the sad feeling in my chest. "Did you find Alex?" I asked in a small voice.
He'd promised he'd find out about Alex and all the reasons behind him joining that gang.
His expression darkened for a second.
I pressed myself completely against the door.
"He came by my house." It came out as a blank statement. I felt Caden looking at me. "He came before I could've come back from the school."
"And there was nobody there?" He asked.
"My parents were there." I replied. "He just left a note. Saying that he wanted to explain everything to me."
Caden was silent for a while.
"Would you?" He asked. "Let him explain?"
I didn't know how to answer that. Would his explanation even change the fact that he lied to me? Well, at least Alex seemed to think that it'd change everything. That's what he wrote in that note.
"I guess not." I shrugged. "Unless he forced me to listen. I'll have to listen then."
We both fell silent after that. Somewhat it felt like an uncomfortable silence. Tense too. I could hear the people clearing towards the cafeteria until the voice of footsteps almost faded.
"I saw you back there." He said, all of a sudden.
"The library. With that redhead."
I smiled at that. He sure had a way of changing the mood. "The redhead is named as Brody." I added.
"I prefer redhead." He said. "Looks like you gave him the wrong impression."
I tried not dwelling on that. "About what?"
My heart fluttered when I felt him caress my palm gently.
