a knight's promise // botw link x reader

fired?!

as you neared the main doors of the castle you suddenly thought of link and zelda. they were good friends of yours now and you wanted to say goodbye to them, especially link, but fludia obviously wouldn't care and wouldn't believe that you had befriended the hylian champion and hyrule's princess. 

"y/n?"

you and fludia stopped walking and you both turned around to see zelda and link (speak of the devil) standing together with still expressions on their faces. fludia walked past you and bowed down to princess zelda.

"your highness, i was just escorting ms. y/n out of castle. please do not worry, i have it all taken care of."

"escort? did she quit?"

"n-no, your highness. i fired her for her inappropriate behaviour and actions."

you shyly looked over at the two and saw zelda give you a sad look. you looked over at link and saw a tint of sadness in his eyes.

"is that so? what exactly did she do?"

"she--"

you cut fludia off and your eyes darted at link for a moment then immediately onto zelda.

"i laughed when i wasn't supposed to."

princess zelda stared at fludia and chuckled, her green eyes lighting up.

"y/n, how would you like to be my personal maid? i've already gotten a room set up for you next to mine. all thanks to link here for helping out and moving in the furniture. fludia, y/n cannot be fired unless you talk to me first."

"zelda! i-i would love to! thank you so much for this, i--i don't know what to say."

"anything for a friend."

princess zelda smiled sweetly at you. fludia straightened up and tried to argue against the princess but backed off when she saw link practically staring her down with so much intensity that fludia apologised and walked off. 

"link, could you please bring y/n's bags to her new room?"

the young knight nodded and walked by you to grab your belongings when you protested and said that you would carry them yourself. link looked over at you and smiled a bit. 

"princess's orders."

you sighed and blushed at him and looked away. goddesses, how did one man have this much power over you? zelda looked at the two of you suspiciously and called out to you.

"y/n, link will take you to your room while i'll go...research in the library. please don't be shy to bother me if you have any complications."

the beautiful princess walked off gracefully, her long blonde hair moving in sync with the pace she walked in as she went to the large royal library. you awed at her beauty and followed link to your new room.

link placed your bags onto the ground next to a wooden door. you looked up at him.

"is this it?"

link nodded.

he slowly opened the door to reveal your new room. you gasped and took everything in.

the room was a lot nicer than the room you shared with the maids. the walls were white and you had a tiny balcony directly in front of the door, a few metres away. there was a single bed in the corner and a small desk beside it with some books and novels. next to the balcony was a small wardrobe that held some new clothing and there was a beige rug on the ground in front of you. 

you walked inside your room and decided to go to the wardrobe first. you looked at the new clothes and raised an eyebrow. 

"new clothes? is this a new maid's outfit?"

you pulled it out and admired the attire. it was like the one you wore before but a lot more cleaner and instead of a black maid's dress, it was the royal blue colour that had tiny golden intricate designs over it. it still had the old-fashioned white apron over it but it still looked beautiful nonetheless. you smiled and looked over at link to see him leaning onto the door frame with a small smile on his pale face, his arms crossed. 

"this room is gorgeous, link! did you really put all of this here?"

link nodded.

"and these new clothes! did zelda get them for me--"

"actually, i did."

-

"you--wait--what?"

link walked over to you and stood beside you as he looked through the wardrobe. he pulled out a nice and simple f/c dress that stopped right above your knees. 

"i saw this the other day in castle town and thought it would look nice on you. i bought it and put it in here."

your face turned a bright red and you looked away.

"link, you really didn't have to get anything for me--"

"of course i had to, it's a way of showing how grateful i am. if it weren't for you, i probably wouldn't be smiling as much as i am now. you've really helped me, y/n."

your e/c eyes sneaked a peak at link's face and you saw that he now had a large smile on his face, his eyes creasing at the corners. 

your pointy ears grew hot and you put the maid's outfit back into the wardrobe and walked onto the balcony quickly. you swore you heard link chuckle a bit but shrugged it off.

you turned around, your arms leaning onto the balcony and you gazed at the young champion who was still inside your room. your heart was beating loudly in your ears as you saw him stretch, his arms popping out of the blue tunic and his biceps flexing a bit. you glazed your eyes all over link and bit your lip a bit. 

how is he still single?

link turned around so that his back was facing you and walked towards the door. he stopped and turned his head slightly to make eye contact with you.

"come find me if you want to. i'm always open for a small chat with you."

and like that, link left and you could only hear his boots echoing down the hallway. the beating in your chest and ears calmed down and you looked over the balcony. the scenery was astonishing. you had a clear view of one of the castle's gardens and could see some bits of castle town. you walked back into your room and pulled out the f/c dress link bought you. you placed it directly on yourself and stared at yourself through the wall mirror on the other side of the room. 

you giggled and twirled around in it, a large smile across your face as you thought about what link said before.

you couldn't believe that THE link, the hylian champion of hyrule, zelda's appointed knight and the one who was going to defeat calamity ganon, thought of you and bought a dress because it'd 'look nice on you'. 

you squealed and placed it onto your new bed. you quickly changed into your new maids outfit and walked out of your room, skipping down the hallway as you thought about the young knight.
