Pronunciation Guide:

One of the most common questions I am asked is how to pronounce names in this story. And, mostly it revolves around the names of two of the main characters, Sheala and Reane.  Because on Geiha (being a fantasy world and all) some of the phonetic rules are different.  Especially when it comes to the "ea" sound.  Here on Earth, the ea sound is usually a long e (as in ear), and sometimes a short e (as in jet).  But not always so on Geiha.  See below for explanation.

Mortals:

Sheala (SHAY-lah) - The origins of this name are Famirrian, with influences of the northern lands. In this region, the ea is generally pronounced as "ay".

Reane (REE-an) - The origins of this name are the main southern continent where the ea sound is broken into a long e sound followed by the a sound of the short a.

Brentai (BREN-tie) - The name is Pelsan (far western) in origin.  The Pelsans are a clan base race of warriors.

Noranda (NOR-an-da)

Gods:

Earoni (EER-own-ee) This is a third way in which the "ea" is treated because the origins of this name for the Greater Goddess are elven in nature.  The Elven pronunciation of the "ea" combination mirrors the normal rules here on Earth.

Diur (DEE-uhr)

Octeava (Ok-TEE-ay-vah)

Sarina (SAH-ree-nah)

Sashna (SASH-nah)

Descist (Dee-SHIST)

Places/Things:

Fimmirra (Fim-EAR-ah)

Hitithe (HIT-eyeth)

Earonitan (EER-own-ih-tawn)

Alshu (AL-shoo)

Balara (Bah-LAR-ah)

Iecanaon (Eye-CAN-ay-on)

Vashi (VASH-ee)

Ros (ROHS)

Rumatan (ROO-mah-tawn)

Egalaton (EE-gal-ah-ton)

Taru-Des (Tar-OO-des)

Chapter Dating Conventions

Each chapter begins with a date in the following format: Day of Month, Month, Year.  These dates are provided to give an idea of the passage of time during the course of the story.

The yearly calendar of Geiha is divided into nine equal months of 40 days. Each year starts on the first day of Spring (1st of Earonitan).  The months progress as follows:

Earonitan, Alshu, Balara, Iecanaon, Vashi, Ros, Rumatan, Egalaton, and ending with Taru-Des.

Special Features Of Geiha

The Eye of Earoni appears in the night sky. It is a swirling mass of stars that is revered as Earoni's own way of watching over the world in the darkness and bright enough to cast some light on the world.
