Ch. 4 Liz's Party

I woke up the next morning, did my workout routine, and a little bit of training. It's lonely in the compound when Tony isn't here. Before the Accords, I would have multiple people to train with. But now, it's just me. I get so lonely. Maybe I can invite Peter one of these days.

I finish up with the boxing bag and head to the kitchen. It's almost 3, and I hadn't eaten anything yet today. I make myself a sandwich and grab a bag of chips from the cupboard and sit down. I take one bite of my sandwich and hear my phone ring. I look at who's calling and see it's Peter.

"Hello?" I say with a mouth full of food.

"Hey, is there any chance you'd want to go to a party with me and Ned?"

I swallow my bite. Almost choking on it. I cough uncontrollably.

"Woah, hey Em are you okay?"

"Yeah, Yeah I'm fine." I struggle to say, trying to breath steadily. "Did you say a party?"

"Yeah, a uh, friend from school is having people over and she invited me to come. I thought I'd ask you."

"Uh, sure. Yeah, I guess. I thought you were gonna ask me to go patrolling with you."

"You fight crime with her, that's so cool." I hear Ned say in the background.

"Is Ned with you?" I ask, letting out a small giggle.

"Yeah, He is." Then I hear Ned yell, "Hi Emerson, remember me?" I have to take my phone away from my ear because this boy is actually yelling through the phone.

"Yes Ned, she remembers you. She literally just said your name like 5 seconds ago." I hear Peter tell him and I can't help but laugh.

"Hi Ned." I say. "What time is the party?"

"At 7, I think."

"Sure, sounds good. I'll just meet you at your house and we can go together." Then I realize what I said. "Well not like together, together. Just like, in the same car. With each other. Gotta save the planet, you know." Oh god, why am I so awkward. "So will May drive us?"

I hear Peter and Ned laugh, "Yeah, she said she'll take us. She offered to come pick you up, but she doesn't know you live at the compound." Then I hear Ned speak up, "she lives where?" He's totally fanboying right now.

"Haha, Yeah. So I'll meet you at your house at 6:30?"

"Yeah sounds good."

"Alright, see you there Peter. Bye Ned."

They both say bye, Ned practically bursting my eardrum, and I hang up.

We're in the car with May, and we just arrived at the party.

"House party in the suburbs. Oh, I remember these. Kind of jealous." May says to us.

"It'll be a night to remember." Ned smiles, obviously very excited.

"Ned, some hats wear men. You wear that hat." She says to him.

"Yeah, it gives me confidence."

"This is a mistake. Hey, let's just go home." Peter speaks up, turning to us after staring off into space.

"Oh, Peter. I know. I know it's really hard... trying to fit in with all the changes your body's going through. It's flowering now." May says, looking back at me and Ned. "He's so stressed out lately."

"What helps with stress is a party. We should go to the party." Ned says, trying to convince him.

"Yeah, let's do it. I'm gonna go." Peter finally says.
