Home Sweet... Kingdom?

Max's POV

I woke up stiff and soar, and still being carried by Makus. His attention was focused at a large wooden gate that loomed before us. "I can get down now." I said sliding off. Makus looked back and smiled taking his jacket off so I was free.

As soon as his jacket was gone I was hit by the cold, I forgot about the snow on the ground, and the chilly wind. "Well it's good to see you awake." Makus said stretching his back and handing me his jacket. "You were getting kind of warm." He said smiling. I mumbled thanks and I put the coat on, it was still warm and I smuggled right into it like it was a bed.

"How much further?" I asked looking at the high wall.

"We're here." He said and banged on the wall. A few shards of ice and snow fell on the ground around him and a metal door, hidden by the snow, swung open. "You coming?" he asked looking back. I shrugged and started following.

As soon as I stepped through the door I was hit with warmth. The world inside the wall was a complete contrast to what was outside. The sun was at high noon, people were out and about shopping. I half expected the time to be somewhere in the Renaissance Europe, but I watched rust bucket old beaters drive down a smooth black road, or sleek silver Audi with black windows stop at a red light. People were dressed in the latest fashions, or others that still thought it was the sixties.

"Wow." I whispered looking around. I heard a chuckle behind me and jumped to see Makus.

"You coming? Your house is that way." He said pointing up the road at a giant castle. Yes a castle.

"The Castle?!" I whisper shouted. He half smiled and nodded.

"I do recall telling you that your father was a king." He said, tapping his chin like he was thinking.

"Yeah, but you know I didn't think that he lived in a caste!" I moaned, a castle drew way too much attention, I was one of those kids that stood outside the gates waiting for the person inside to come through so that I could take his watch.

Makus laughed again and started pushing me lightly forward. "Don't keep him waiting, he hasn't seen his daughter for 15 years." He said looking away. What was that about? I wondered watching him, did he resent my father maybe? I stumbled as someone walked in front of me.

Jumping back I waited for him to start shouting at me and try to hit me. "I'm sorry, Sir Makus it is good to see you back. Were you successful this time?" Mans voice asked. I looked up and saw a white haired man shaking hands with Makus; they were smiling at each other. My face went red with embarrassment, so I looked to the floor and waited.
