I wake up to yet another note from Calum about how he had to skip out.
I'm starting to get annoyed.
So I call up one of my old best friends, Wyatt, and ask him out to lunch.
We agree to meet at McGuff's.
And let me say- he looks good.
Not better than Cal, of course.
He hugs me, and we sit down.
His striking blue eyes look the same and even his dirty blonde hair is the same pushed back.
"How's life? I hear you're pretty famous now." He says in a smooth tone.
"Far from it. There's a guy...it's complicated."
"Yeah, I heard. You're dating, you're friends."
"Just friends for now, I guess. I don't know. He gives me all these mixed signals all the time. It's like he wants me, but he doesn't stay around long enough to figure it out." I sigh.
"He sounds like a waste of your time. But you always did know how to handle relationships, Caroline. You'll handle this well."
I smile at him.
"I miss this. We should do this more often."
"Yeah, we should."
"You went to lunch with Wyatt?!" Peggy asks.
"Yeah, no big deal. We just talked." I say as I take off my shirt.
Where's my tank top?
"No, it is a big deal. You guys were the power couple."
"It didn't mean anything, Peg. Plus, I like Calum- a lot. Even if he is an ass."
"Since when am I an ass?" I hear an all too familiar voice.
It's too late, he already saw me.
And the tattoo I was planning on hiding.
Peggy shuts her door.
Calum waltzes over to me and picks me up.
I can't stay mad at him, not like this.
He sets me down and rubs his thumb over my hipbone where the little tattoo is.
"I saw the one on your wrist the first day I met you," he says, acknowledging the a recent moon, "how many do you have?"
"Three." I say quietly.
"Where's the other one?" He asks with a smirk.
"You'll find out later." I say as I walk back to my room.
"What does the moon mean?"
"Peggy has one too. We got them when we were 16."
"I like it. What about this little gem?" He runs my hipbone again, making me shiver.
"Um, long story." I mumble.
I'm in a weird mood today.
"You know you can tell me." He says.
"Yeah, I know."
I pull a big t shirt on and start folding my clothes.
"What about the hidden one?"
"I was drunk." I admit.
He rolls his eyes.
"Figures. Hey, has your nose always been pierced?" He asks.
"Yeah. I haven't worn my hoop in a while. I missed it."
"It's cute. You're cute." He lays down on top of me.
I shove him off.
"Not today, Calum. I have chores."
"C'mon...takes a break." He whines and pushes me down again.
I push his chest hard, and he falls back.
"Just stop it." I say a little too coldly.
"Fine. Call me when you're done being a prude." He stands up.
"Don't hold your breath." I say and close the door behind him.
I hear the front door slam shortly after.
Peggy opens my door.
"You heard that?" I ask her, tears brimming in my eyes.
She nods and sits next to me.
I hold back my tears.
"He's not worth it, Caro. He really isn't."
But she doesn't get it.
It has to be him.
He has to be worth it.
A/N: HEY! I rey not to do these too often, but I figured I would let you know that this story is heading towards climax 1. That's right, just the first one. Hope you guys are enjoying this and PLEASE share it. In case you were curious, my other fanfic "Fight Club" is on hold until further notice. I love youuuuu.
