Born to Esther and Mikael during the tenth century, Arutha was the son that came before Kol. Much like his brother Kol, Arutha was one who was barely remembered, always pushed to the edges of the family, treated as an outcast.
Yet as kids, he was rather close with his brothers, both Niklaus and Elijah. He was their shadow, throughout all their adventures, even if they didn't want him there. That all changed, however, the moment they met the doppelganger, Tatiana Petrova.
His brothers fought over her, for her love, a conflict that would tear the family apart. And for that entire time, Arutha found himself once again on the outside of it all. He was in love with her too, and yet, found himself unable to confess to her, the brunette far too enamoured with his brothers to see him. Instead, he found himself keeping his distance from her, with a cold facade, hostile even, whenever he was forced to speak with her.
After the death of his brother Henrik, at the hands of the wolves of the village, it was then his mother decided to make them monsters. And she used the blood of Tatia to do so.
Once turned, they struggled with the bloodlust that came with their kind, and that was how Arutha stumbled upon Elijah murdering Tatia. He was too late to save her, could do nothing for the broken doppelganger but as he held her in his arms, he finally mustered the courage to tell her that he loved her. And though she had no strength left to speak, the smile on her face told him everything he ever wanted to know.
It was his fury with his brothers that drove him from them, refusing to take part in their pact, always and forever. Instead, he chose to go his own way, leaving them behind for five hundred years, until their paths crossed once more in England.
It was there he met the newest doppelganger, Katerina Petrova and old feelings stirred inside of him once again. The love for the woman with the face of the doppelganger. He couldn't stop himself falling for Katherine, though it was easy to tell his brother felt the same way. Once again Arutha found himself locking his feelings for the brunette away, despite the fact it pained him to do so.
And when he heard of what his brother Klaus planned to do, it was Arutha who urged Katherine to run, his love for her outweighing his fear of being locked away in a coffin. Her safety was a small price to pay for his freedom, and if he could not have saved Tatia, than Arutha was determined to save one woman he loved.
Now the Original has returned once again, ready to cause hell for anyone that gets in his way. He cares not for the problems that his family face in New Orleans, prepared to take a stand against them with others, for he has never forgotten what they had done to him.
