1. Tell us about yourself (can be age, career, dreams, hobbies, sports, etc.)

Mother, Writer, Singer - and always, Dreamer - I'm endeavoring to life a creative life, and find joy amid the messy bits. I'm currently living north of New Orleans, a city rich with possibilities and brimming with dreamers and creatives! My favorite genres to read (and write in) are poetry & fantasy, my spirit animals are tigers & dragons, and my indulgences - sushi & chocolate.

2. How was it to participate in the Universal Awards?

It was fun to interact with Universal Awards participants! I believe that one of the best things about Wattpad (and awards such as this one) is its ability to connect writers together in a supportive, motivating writing community.

3. Tell us what Gaia: A New Earth is about?

On the surface, Gaia: A New Earth is a story about Kai and Zel, a brother and sister who have struggled to survive without their parents on a futuristic, dystopian Earth that is falling apart. But at its core, Kai and Zel's story is about the connection of humanity to the universe around us, and the powerful connection that the twin siblings have with each other. It's a science fiction story for young adults that I hope readers of all ages can enjoy for its wonder and creativity, but also appreciate for its underlying message of sustainability and love.

4.What inspired you to write Gaia: A New Earth?

As a reader, I've always been a fan of science fiction, and thoughts of writing a starry tale of both humanity and the universe have been with me since I was a kid.  I can vividly remember reading A Wrinkle in Time by Madeleine L'engle when I was about 12 years old. Something in me shifted just as the universe seemed to shift through the tesseracts in her words; I changed from wanting to be an astronaut to wanting to be a writer overnight. The only thing that stayed the same was that my eyes were still in the stars!

5. How did you get into writing and how long have you been doing it?

I began writing poetry as a young teenager, when all I had was a notebook, a pen - and time. I wrote whenever and wherever I could, between classes, at the park, and in my room into the wee hours of the night. My penchant for writing continued though college, where I majored in Music & English and eventually switched from student to teacher, with writing students of my own to advise. Fifteen years later, though I am no longer in academia, I still write every day.

6. Who is your favourite writer?

This is a tough question, as I have had many writers inspire and influence me over the years. But, here are a few that will always make my 'faves' list - among them, great poets and brilliant fantasy writers: Shakespeare, Tennyson, Keats & Shelley, E. Dickinson, E. Barrett Browning, Maya Angelou, J.M. Barrie, C.S. Lewis, Madeleine L'engle, J.K. Rowling.

7. What is your favourite book on Wattpad and in general?

This is an even tougher question, I think, because my favorites on Wattpad are always changing as I meet new writers and I read in many different genres! Take a look at my Wattpad reading lists to find gems in poetry, fantasy, sci-fi, historical fiction, childrens, and more. If I had to pick a favorite book in general, that I've loved since childhood, it would be: The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe by C.S. Lewis.
