My hands shook. My heart was beating so fast, I thought it was going to burst out of my chest.
He wasn't breathing. He wasn't breathing. He wasn't breathing.
I felt strong hands lift me up and take me away from the scene of Catarina using her magic on my friend.
"Ames, Ames." a disoriented voice called out. I rubbed my eyes, the tears burning as they rolled down both cheeks. "Amelia!"
Finally, I snapped out of it. I found myself staring into Alec's blue eyes which were filled with concern.
"Deep breaths, babe. Deep breaths." I followed, and felt myself calm down, only a little. My husband took my hands in his and squeezed them. "You listen to me, Ames. Magnus will be fine. The medics and Catarina are working together. Now, we're gonna help Magnus, alright?"
I looked at him confusedly, but nodded nonetheless. Anything to help my friend.
He pressed a kiss to both of my hands. "What's our motto?"
I took a deep breath.
"Amelia, what's our motto?" Alec repeated.
Oh, God, I felt like throwing up, but I forced myself to calm down.
"Emotions cloud judgement. Emotions cloud judgement. Emotions cloud judgement."
I repeated the words out loud, and repeated them in my head. The Shadowhunter wasn't just a motto, it was a mantra.
Alec nodded approvingly. "That's right. You're not helping Magnus by breaking down. Clear your mind, Ames. And together, you and I are going to get to the bottom of this."
"Did you manage to make contact with the people at the Spiral Labyrinth?" Alec questioned as I took Magnus's hand and squeezed it.
"Yes, and I shared the test results, and he agreed." Catarina began. "Magnus's body is rejecting Lorenzo's magic."
I furrowed my eyebrows. "Rejecting? What do you mean?"
"Think of it like a failing organ transplant." She said. "Each time Magnus performs a spell, it puts a tremendous strain on his body. He got lucky this time." I breathed in a sigh of relief. "He will regain consciousness. But if he uses magic again, even for something small, he might not survive."
"Why can't you just fix him? Why can't you just take Lorenzo's magic out?" Alec asked.
"I wish I could." Catarina stated regrettably. "The only one who can reverse the transfer is the person who gave it to him."
"Lorenzo," I noted. "I'm going to make that son of a bitch wish he was never born."
"Amelia, no. Lorenzo couldn't have planned this. Magic transfusions... They always have risks." Catarina said.
I clenched my fist. "Then as a High Warlock, he shouldn't have done it. He should've turned Magnus down. He knew how desperate Magnus was, and he took advantage of that."
I stood up, fuming, and that's when Alec stopped me by gripping my wrist. "Stay here. If you lose your temper with Lorenzo, he'll be less incentive to help, and you know that." Alec said. "Let me talk to him."
"Alec is right, Amelia." Catarina agreed. "Let him talk to Lorenzo. Clear your mind. It's not good for you or the baby."
Alec left, and that's when Simon, Izzy and Clary visited.
