“Breakfast!” I heard my brother yell from downstairs.
I groaned and rolled over only to find myself struggling to remain on higher ground. I opened my eyes and looked where I was sleeping. The window seat.
I know that I had fallen into a crumpled heap on the floor after crying. My brother must have come in to check on me and put me on the window seat.
I stretched and got off the window seat. I looked down at the black dress I was wearing and decided to change into something more comfortable.
I walked downstairs to find my brother in the kitchen making waffles. He glanced at me as I walked in and he rolled his eyes. I ignored him. He wasn’t going to let me get off that easy.
“What are you wearing?” he asked.
“My pajamas,” I answered.
“Why did you just now change into pajamas when it’s morning?”
I shrugged, “They’re comfortable.”
He shook his head and turned back around to get out the butter and syrup.
I sat down at the table.
He turned around, grinned at me, and asked, “Are you sure you want to go to school looking like that?”
I felt my eyes open wide in shock. School? They honestly expected me to go to school?
“I take it you weren’t anticipating this,” he said.
“Obviously,” I said while I got up from the table to go change.
By the time I made it downstairs my brother was washing his dishes. He barely glanced at me, “Better hurry up if you want time to eat.”
I looked at the clock. Great. I was going to be late.
I grabbed my backpack, which was hanging next to the door and hollered to my brother, “Thanks, but no thanks!”
I could have sworn I heard him chuckle and mutter under his breath, “Late again.”
It was snowing as I was leaving the house. I grabbed my ipod out of my backpack and put in the headphones and walked to school.
I walked in the front doors and I swear everyone stopped what they were doing to look at me. I froze for a split second then I walked down the hallway while people pointed at me and whispered. I didn’t like it. At all.
