"Technically, I'm all me. But as you can see, not all mermaids are fish. The whole half-woman half-fish thing is an old sailor's superstition, and they were mostly drunk. And don't even get me started on the Selkies." She took a long draught of her beer.
"Now me, my lower features do tend towards mimicry of apex predator reptiles, but that's all coincidence. I mean, you aren't 'half monkey' just because of your legs, am I right?"
"That's true," I managed. My date finished her chicken, which she had ordered raw. She wasn't getting a second Tinder date.
