I slowly came awake. As I did, I recognized several things at once: a strange beeping noise, a hospital bed and the last thing was that I have no idea how I came to be here!

The beeping suddenly got faster. A nurse came into the room as I tried to sit up and firmly, yet gently pushed me back down while telling me to try and relax. Telling me I mustn't get overly excited, the nurse said she was going to get the doctor. "Do not move or we'll have to sedate you. We can't have you getting yourself all worked up. The doctor will be with you shortly."

Ha, that's funny. Don't get worked up! How can I not get worked up? I can't remember how I got here and I shouldn't be upset about that? Right!

A minute later there was a brief tap on the door and a man in a white coat came in. He was probably in his mid-fifties, graying hair and a friendly smile on his face.

"Hello, my name is Dr. Andrews. How are you feeling?" He had a really nice, friendly voice.

"Um, fine, I guess." Wow, was that raspy voice really mine? I cleared my throat and asked the two questions I really needed answered for now. "Where am I and what am I doing here?"

"You're in Jamestown Memorial Hospital and you were involved in a car accident." He stated this matter-of-factly. "Do you happen to remember the accident?" He asked.

I pondered this for a moment trying to remember anything about an accident but nothing came to me. "No. I don't remember an accident."

"Do you know your name?" As he asked his questions and answered mine, he was examining me. The light he shined in my eyes hurt but that's a normal thing since no one really likes having that done to them.

"Yes, Desiree Carter."

"That's good. Now, do you know how old you are?" He was checking my pulse rate now.

"Yes, I'm 21 years old."

Ok, now do you know what today's date is?" This was asked as he was checking my reflexes.

"Of course, it's December 31, 2009." I was sure of the date because I have a New Year's Eve party to go to later on. Wait, the party! I can't cancel because I promised Brianna I would be there!

"Ok, well, I need to leave the room for just a moment. I'll be back in a while and we'll talk further about what's going on with you." He had written things down in what I can only assume is my chart and unfortunately had taken it with him when he left the room.

An hour later:

Someone tapped on my door and walked in when I said 'come in'. It was Dr. Andrews followed by a very tall, good-looking man. He must have stood at least 6'4" and had the most beautiful emerald green eyes I have ever seen in my life! His dark brown hair was meticulously cut short and his face was smooth. His body was built and he just oozed sex appeal! Wow! Did it just get hot in here or is it just me?

I looked at him a little closer and noticed he looked tired and felt a bit sorry for him. I wonder who he is? Another doctor perhaps? It would explain his tiredness because don't doctors all have that tired look?

I was brought out of my musings when Dr. Andrews spoke up. "Ms. Carter, I have brought someone to see you. Do you recognize the man standing beside me?"
