"Why do you think she's not here today?" Zack asks the
guys as he takes a seat next to the empty spot that Rosalyn usually occupies at lunch.
"She didn't look well yesterday," Josh says, chomping on his food, not really bothered that Rosalyn is not at school today.
It's a normal thing to be absent from school, but I can't help but worry about her either. She said that there was something going on, and the chit I found on her also confirmed that something big's happening just heightens my anxiety for her absence.
Plus, she hasn't texted or called anyone back yet.
"She's certainly fine," I mumble, more to myself than others. "She probably slept in and we're just overthinking."
Despite the reassurance, there's still a lingering thought in the back of my mind that something is very wrong.
Silence spreads over us and it's so weird and suffocating to stay here. I'm about to excuse myself and leave when I see a panicked Jenelle hurrying towards us.
She stops right next to Zack and looks straight at me, "do you know where Rosalyn is?"
"Um, no," I reply, wondering why Rosalyn wouldn't tell anyone about her not coming to school today. "Did she tell you?"
"I wouldn't be asking you if I knew, you dimwit," she snaps, clearly losing her mind.
"Doesn't she tell you everything?" Alex asks, a hint of annoyance creeping into his tone.
At his voice, Jenelle pauses and shares a weird look with Zack, who now seems less calmer than before, and it's scaring me too. "I'm gonna go over to her place," she says and turns to leave.
"I'll come with you," Zack says firmly, and now, seeing two of Rosalyn's close friends panicked over her, I get up too. And with me, the whole group gets up as well.
