The tv was on loudly and it took me a minute but I recognized the song and the movie. Dirty Dancing. One of Bree's favorite movies. We had watched it so many times I had it memorized. It was the scene of the movie where Baby and Johnny Castle were rehearsing to the song Love is Strange. Bree and Scott hadn't seen me come in so I watched as they impersonated Baby and Johnny impersonating Mickey and Sylvia.
"Sylvia." Scott said seductively.
"Yes, Mickey." Bree jumped up from where she sat on the couch.
"How do you call your lover boy?" Scott raised an eyebrow.
"Come, here LOVER BOY." Bree curled her finger towards Scott swinging her hips back and forth.
"And if he doesn't answer?"
"Oh Lover boy."
"And if he STILL doesn't answer?" Scott did his best Johnny Castle impression.
"I simply say Baby, oh baby. My sweet baby. You're the one." Bree rolled her hips, squatting down she did some kind of hella sexy strip tease move and I couldn't stop myself from applauding as I entered the living room.
Bree looked up with a laugh and Scott joined in.
"Don't you dare stop now." I warned crossing the room.
Bree stood up with a roll of her eyes but still smiling.
"HI." I pulled her into my arms pressing my hips to hers.
"Hi." Her face flushed red. I loved the effect I had on her.
"Ok, so on that note. I'm going to leave." Scott said.
"Bye Scotty." I called not taking my eyes off Bree.
"Bye!" He called as he made a quick exit.
"You're feeling better?" Bree observed.
"Little bit. That was hot as hell, your little dance moves. I don't know why you don't dance for me more." I pushed her shirt off her shoulder with my finger.
"You've never asked." She bit her lip.
I inhaled sharply with a tilt of my head. "Maybe we can finish what we started earlier."
Bree looked away and I instantly regretted what I had said remembering how she said she didn't like it.
"Never mind." I mumbled and let her go.
"I didn't mean it how it sounded this morning." She tried to explain.
"What? That you didn't like it?" I said a little more coolly then I intended.
"It just didn't feel like you were yourself." She ran her fingers through her hair.
I paused and remembered what my mom had said, Fight it out.
"Probably cause I'm mad at you." I blurted out.
"I know you're mad that I said we weren't going to try-"
"What gives you the right to make that decision?" I demanded to know.
"I agree it's not just my decision to make. But is it really something you want to go through again?"
"Of course not! But do I want to try again? Yes, I absolutely do. I'm sorry if you think that I'm being selfish."
"I don't want to lose another baby." Her voice sounded haunted.
"We can talk to the doctors. We can see what our options are. I'll be with you the whole way."
"Except you weren't." Her mouth set in a hard line.
"What?" I asked confused.
"You weren't there when I lost the baby Chris. You weren't there when I bled out all over that damn bathroom floor. You don't think about it every time you walk into that shower." Her face contorted with pain. "So you're mad at me?" She continued, "Well I'm mad at you!"
"Bree, I got there as fast as I could. You know I would have never let you go through that alone."
"But I did. And I'm still getting through that and you're pushing me to try again-"
"No I'm not!" I raised my voice. "Shit Bree I'd be happy to just talk about it. To be asked what I want and how I feel."
"Ok." She said evenly sitting down on the couch, "What do you want? How do you feel?"
"I want to try again for a baby." I admitted. "But more importantly right now, what I really want is my wife back. I want to not have this tension between us." I motioned towards her. "I'm so ass-backwards in love with you." I sat down next to her on the couch.
She looked up at me, sadness clouding her features.
"You love me, right Bree?" My voice caught in my throat.
"Of course I do." She tried to smile, "But I don't know if I can consider trying for a baby again."
"I'll protect you." I vowed.
She leaned into me wrapping her arms around my waist. I kissed the top of her head. She didn't respond so I just squeezed her tightly hoping it was enough.
