I guess you could say that I'm a nobody.
I mean of course I had friends and family that loved and cared about me, but there was nothing interesting about my life. I was an average looking guy with a less than luxurious lifestyle.
Throughout my life I have always been that shy kid that had a select few of people that I interacted with. The only interesting thing about me was that I was one of the few openly gay kids in my high school, but because I wasn't as flamboyant and outgoing, and I didn't live up to the stereotype, I didn't become popular like the other open kids. And by popular I mean surrounded by tons of preppy girls who want a gay best friend. I simply hid under the radar until graduation.
I have always had a dream that I would move to California and become extremely successful. So that's what I did.
Well, what I intended on doing.
I packed up and left my friends and family in Australia, excited to finally make my dream a reality.
Things didn't exactly go as planned.
You see, I got to Los Angeles safe and sound, but I didn't have a clue what to do next. I was so focused on leaving home and getting to LA, that I didn't think through what I was going to do once I got here. Thank god for spending too much time online and talking to strangers on the internet, because I was friends with someone who lived in this area and let me crash at their place until I got a place of my own.
I got a couple jobs, one as a waiter in a fancier type of restaurant, and then an employee at a local Starbucks.
I managed to find a small apartment that I could afford, and my parents were nice enough to send me my furniture from my bedroom and some of their old furniture. You see, I've always had a dream to move to LA, and when they got enough saved up to redecorate their home, they left their old furniture in a storage unit for me to have when I got my own place and couldn't afford to get my own things. I didn't think it was necessary at the time but now I'm quite thankful.
I live just a few blocks away from Franta Records. It's one of the most respectable record labels in the world, and if you're lucky enough to get signed by them, you're pretty much guaranteed to be the next big thing in the music industry. If I managed to get an interview with them and get a job, even if it was just being the coffee boy, I could start making my way up, and maybe even get the chance to meet Mr. Franta himself.
Today is the only day off that I have this week, and I am standing outside of the building, finding the courage to go inside to speak to someone about getting a job at Franta Records. This is where my story begins.
Oh, and before I continue, I'm Troye Mellet.
