As you can probably judge from the title, this is kinda a rant.

It's getting pretty tiring when people call me disrespectful for reading letters (ironic) or drawing historical Lams, and that is because of one thing in specific:

All of this stuff of what's respectful or disrespectful to the dead is completely subjective.

There's no right and there's no wrong because what's okay and what isn't completely depends on your personal values when it comes to the dead, and not everyone will share those values! Like I don't agree with people who say that it doesn't matter what we do or say in the Hamilton fandom because they're all dead, but I don't come up to them and nag them about how they're a horrible person because all I'll be able to say is why I personally think they're disrespectful, I can't provide facts, just personal bias.

And I got no problem with people who think things like how it's disrespectful to ship any real life couple who wasn't married or ended up together to put an example, even if I don't agree with them. My problem is when they go to other people and start arguing about how their personal beliefs are the only right ones and anyone who doesn't follow those personal beliefs are wrong and being disrespectful.

I've also had two people already pretty much get mad at me because I don't change my mind and like, that's what normal people do when they're certain about something??? I don't owe anyone a change of mind just like nobody owes me a change of mind, it's really ridiculous to get angry about someone holding to a freaking personal opinion.

I think people should respect a dead person's legacy and do them right, but I don't think we should treat them like they can still be emotionally hurt or offended by what we do. And if you disagree that's fine! But I'm tired of people playing the righteous asshole with the one true respectful opinion.

So what I'm saying is, people need to chill the fuck down, stop arguing about something that's completely personal and subjective jfc.
