Y/n's POV

"But dad! I don't want to go visit Uncle Irihata!" I whine as my dad pulls me along. He drags me to the car and throws me in, slamming the door.

"Y/n stop being a pain in the ass. We're going to visit him whether you like it or not." He says as he starts driving.

"Daaaaadddd! I'm-"

"I don't care that you're socially awkward. He's your uncle and we haven't visited him in awhile." He cuts me off. I slump in my seat and cross my arms. Why does my dad do this to me...

We finally pull up to my uncle's house and my dad rings the doorbell. We wait for a few seconds until we hear footsteps from inside the house. The door opens revealing my Uncle Irihata. A smile appears on his face.

"Ah, (d/n)! Y/n! How nice to see you!" He gives my dad a big hug and turns to me. I stay quiet and he just hugs me happily. I really hate reunions like these.

"You've grown up so fast!" My Uncle Irihata exclaims as we walk inside his house. We sit down and my dad and uncle just chat for awhile until they turn their attention towards me.

"So how are you Y/n?" My uncle asks but I keep my mouth shut. My dad pinches my arm for me to talk and I wince.

"Um good." I reply.

"So what year are you now in school" He asks curiously. I turn to my dad and he gives me that look.

"I'm going to be in my third year." I say. My dad then speaks up as if he forgot to say something.

"That reminds me Y/n. I'm going to be going on a business trip soon. It's going to be longer than all my other ones. I'll be gone for six months." My eyes widen. Six months?! The longest he's been away was for a week and that was all! But six months?!

"What?!"

"Just calm down Y/n. I have everything sorted out. Your uncle was happy to let you stay here for when I'm gone. That's why we're here." He explains. I was about to ask something else but he got to it before I could.

"Your uncle is a volleyball coach at a school called Aoba Johsai. So you will be attending school there. The school year is beginning in a week so that's good." My dad finishes. I stay silent for a moment before I look up to my uncle who just nodded and smiled at me. I sigh.

"Sure whatever." I reply.

After about an hour or two we decided to leave. We said goodbye to my uncle and drove off.

"Y/n."

I look over to my dad. He had a sad look on his face.

"I'm sorry I have to leave you for so long." He says.

"It's fine dad, really. I'll get used to it." I say and he gives me a sad smile.

"I'm leaving two days before you start school... Are you sure you're okay with all this. I mean if you really don't want to, I can just cancel my trip and-" I cut him off.

"Dad, I'll be fine don't worry. You need to go to that business trip. If it's for six months then it must be really important. Just call me once in awhile when you have time." I say giving him a reassuring smile.

Two days before the start of my school year, I had moved in to my uncle's house and we were now seeing my dad off at the airport.

"Bye dad! Remember to call me about the details when you have time!" I yell as I wave. He laughs and waves back. He disappeared through the security section and me and my uncle walked back to his car. It was a quiet ride back, but it was calm.

"So you excited to attend your new school?" He asks and I nod. I was still kind of awkward around him but that's how I am with most people. Though I can be more cold to most people. I'll warm up to him. But it'll take time. I was still getting used to this situation anyway.

"Y/n. I know that we're not that close yet and your dad told me how awkwardly social you are but just take your time warming up to me. You are my niece anyway and I wouldn't want to force you to do anything you wouldn't want to do." He says. My eyes widen at what he had said. My face turned calm and I smiled at him.

"Thanks Uncle Irihata."

It was my first day of my third year at Aoba Johsai and to be honest, I wasn't even nervous. The learning part didn't start quite yet. It was just meeting all the teachers, getting a tour of the school, and applying for clubs. It wasn't much to be honest. Only that girls were fangirling over some guy. I didn't quite see his face due to the big crowd but I didn't care. I didn't stand out and I didn't make any new friends but that's how I like it.

It was finally the end of the day and my uncle approached me.

"Y/n. There's a volleyball practice after school so I'm going to be home late." He says.

"Already?! On the first day?" I ask.

"Yeah we're one of the top volleyball teams." He replies.

"Oh I see."

"You want to come watch?" He asks. A flashback ran through my head.

"You're not doing volleyball Y/n!"

I shook my head, "I'll just go home." I waved him goodbye and walked home. As I got home I put my back against the door and stare at my hands.

Volleyball.
