October Winds

I heard the screeching, howling wind

as I was coming up the bend.

Summer is at an end

repeated the moaning wind;

fall time will soon be past

then November is here at last.

Winter blows the cold all around

the snow saturates the ground

looking at the full moon

an owl hoots winter is soon.

October winds blowing thru the trees

doing with the leaves whatever it please.

Soon all the trees will be bare

tossed around without a care

As the leaves are busy sending

that fall will soon be ending.

Winter clothes are now here to stay

with warm clothes being stowed away.

October winds soaring across the lake

stirring up the water to come awake.

I love to sit and listen

as the October winds come in

ushering in the cold

while being noisy and bold

With a strong, gusty greeting,

the  old house takes a beating

We lock out the winds by shutting the door,

but feel the drafts blow thru cracks under the floor

While the winds blow, Arctic weather moves in

but the fireplace invites us into the den.

The October winds how they did blow,

all night long it was whistling low.
