"Hi, my name is Lacie, and I have a problem" I said quietly. Don't let my quiet demeanor fool you, I'm not quiet at all. I'm trying to play a part here.
"Nice to meet you, Lacie" the group answers back in unison. I shyly smile and see the leader of the circle smile back at me. I sat down and leaned back in my seat, flicking a brown curl from my face.
"Aren't you going to tell us a little about yourself?" The group leader asked. I suppressed an eye roll and stood back up.
"I'm 17 years old and I am going to be a senior at Oakridge high school. After high school, I'd like to be an actress" I said. I looked over at the group leader who started a clap as I sat down. This was kinda fun. Like I said, I'd like to be an actress. I'm getting to practice here at this stupid alcohol meeting. My mom made me come because I guess it's not socially acceptable to bring alcohol to school... Three times. The school told my mom that I would be expelled if I didn't go to these meetings. School starts next week and they want me to be on the same track as them. So here I am. Its kinda funny that I'm here. I'm at an alcohol intervention when I'm not even old enough to drink alcohol. I let out a chuckle and an older guy sitting next to me glared. I looked at the group leader but he was listening intently on someone else's story. So I raised my hand up a bit and flicked the older guy off. His eyes widened and he turned back around and into the circle.
I picked at my nails for awhile, waiting for the meeting to end. But that god damn perky group leader called on me once again.
"Lacie, do you have anything to add?" He asked, sincerely. Game time.
"I'm sorry. I wasn't really listening because I was just thinking about everything that I've been through," Sniff. "I never wanted to be like this," Sniff, sniff. "It's just the peer pressure, you know?" Cry. Everyone looked at me with sympathy except for the older man sitting next to me. I mentally praised myself. A lady walked over to me and handed me a tissue. "Thank you" I smiled at her appreciatively.
"You're very welcome, sweetheart" she said.
"May I please go to the restroom and clean myself up?" I asked, sweetly.
"Of course you can, Lacie!" Group leader said. He looked at his watch. Right on time. "Well we only have a few minutes left anyways, why don't we just be done for today?" He asked. I nodded sadly. Everyone got up and started putting away chairs and I got up and left. I "went to the bathroom". I saw the waves of beautiful blonde hair through the windshield of a convertible. That was Bethany, my best friend.
"Hey, bitch!" She called out to me. I waved to her and then climbed into the passenger seat.
"You know, Beth, that meeting was truly inspirational" I said, closing my door.
"Really?" She asked, putting her sunglasses on. She started the car and began to pull out of the parking lot.
"I think I'm done with alcohol. It really is a problem" I said. Bethany smiled and we both started laughing.
"You are definitely going to be an actress" Bethany said after laughing. I flipped my hair over my shoulder.
"Thank you" I said, with a smile. We pulled into a parking lot and then got out and walked to the beach. I spotted Tanner as we were walking down and waved. He waved back with a small smile. I took off my clothes so that I was in my bikini and threw them in Bethany's car. I then ran down the beach and hugged a shirtless Tanner. "Hey, babe" I said. He smiled at me but turned back to Ben. I put my arm around his waist and then glanced at Bethany who walked straight to Ben to start her usual flirting. I pulled Tanner away from them.
"What?" He asked.
"I missed you" I said, placing a small kiss on his mouth. He smiled.
"Me too. Let's go swim" he said, grabbing my hand and pulling me towards the waves. He glanced over my shoulder and I turned around to see Cara standing down the beach. She made eye contact with Tanner and smiled. He smiled back and his grip on my hand momentarily loosened. I tugged on his arm and pulled him into the water. His smile faded as he looked back at me so I brought us to where the water was at our chests and then I wrapped my legs around him and kissed him passionately. His hand traveled down my back as he grabbed my butt.
"Tanner!" Ben called from the shore which caused Tanner to drop me and break our kiss. He climbed out of the water to meet Ben while I fixed my bikini. As I walked back onto the beach, I saw that Ashley was sitting on the sand. She saw me and gave me a small smile but I rolled my eyes and continued walking. Ashley and I used to be best friends. She keeps trying to get back on my good side but it's not going to work. Not after what happened. I ignored her and walked straight to Bethany.
"Tanner hasn't been paying much attention to me lately" I whispered to her.
"So take him back to your summer cabin and show him who his girl is" Bethany said, elbowing me lightly with a smile.
"That's a good idea" I said and walked over to Tanner and Ben. Neither of them acknowledged me so I grabbed Tanner and stood on my tiptoes so my mouth was in line with his ear. "Why don't we go over to my parents' summer cabin. We'll have the whole place to ourselves" I whispered.
"Uh, how about another day? I have plans tonight" he said. I nodded.
"Sure, no problem" I said. "Tomorrow night?"
"We'll see, Lacie" he said and then continued his conversation with Ben. I walked back over to Bethany.
"I wanna go home" I said. Bethany linked arms with me and said goodbye to Ben. I didn't even look at Tanner so I didn't know if he even cared that I was leaving. He didn't say a word.
"See you soon, Lace" Bethany called after dropping me off at my house. I waved goodbye and then walked up to my room, not seeing any family members on the way, and let out a frustrated scream as I plopped onto my bed.
