"I have a story, but doesn't everyone? Why does mine feel different? Where do I begin when I finally tell someone?" I think this everyday. I still don't really understand it, and it began 4 years ago. I guess I should start at the beginning.
It all started in 5th grade. I've lived with my mom every since my parents got divorced when I was 4! I stay with my dad during the summer and one weekend every month. I loved living with my mom because she had no rules basically, but my Nanny has a lot, so they balance each other. I didn't used to like going to my dad's house because he had rules, and I thought he was mean. But I went every time because I loved him!
In 5th grade my grandpa and nanny started to move to Kentucky. I was really close with my nanny, so it felt like she was abandoning me. Before they moved all the way out my mom found a basement for rent 15 minutes from my dad's.
Nicholas and I moved in with our dad and never really stayed with my mom. I liked her house and the people she lived with especially his daughter, Karen. We became really close while my mom lived there and since I was going to be going to her middle school the following year she promised to help me. Whenever I went over to my mothers house she usually had a headache, so I would hang out with Karen and her friends.
I'm not gonna lie, my life had changed for the worse once I met Karen. We had gotten Into trouble every time I was with her, but there was one specific time I remember the most.
I had just gotten to my mom's house. I said goodbye to my dad and watched him drive down the street. I dropped my bag off in Karen's room, but she wasn't in there. I didn't even i downstairs because I figure my mom was sleeping.
When I walked outside I found Karen and Thomas. "Hey guys!" I said
"Hey when did you get here?" Karen asked running towards me with her arms open asking for a hug.
"Like 10 minutes ago. Where is everybody? Hey Thomas." I said. Thomas Is pretty cute, but he's a year older than me so I don't think he likes me.
"Most of them are at their houses. We already asked if they wanted to come out, but they're being lazy asses and said no." Thomas informed me with that voice he uses only with me.
"Okay. Well what do you want to do?" I asked not really expecting an answer.
"Well we were gonna go to the cove." Karen said looking at Thomas. The cove is this little place in the woods by the house that we made our own. We put plastic chairs, bonfire area, and when we go we bring blankets and food.
"Okay. Let's go!" I said as we started walking up the road toward the woods.
We walked all the way to the cove and stayed till it was almost dark, you could barely see the outline of the trees. We were just walking on the trail we had made for ourselves, Thomas smoking his last ounce of pot, and everything was quiet. All of a sudden there was a shrieking noise that came from behind me. I turned around and saw Karen on the ground crying and screaming her head off.
I ran over to her, "What's wrong!"
"I DONT KNOW! MY FOOT FEELS LIKE ITS BURNING! OH MY GOD!" Karen screamed.
"What do we do?" I asked Thomas, who looked really high.
"I don't know. what happened?" He asked me, like I could actually see what was wrong.
"I don't know. she's just in a lot of pain..." I said.
"Call 9-1-1." Thomas suggested.
"No!" I screamed. "You're so stupid! Let's just pick her up and walk her back to the house. " So we walked her all the way back to the house. Most of her weight was on me because Thomas was so out of it, and Karen would not shut up.
As I walked her into the kitchen, her brother's babysitter came over and looked at her foot. I went to get a wet towel and saw it. The blood trail coming from the door.
I came back with the towel and Karen's whole foot was bloody. She had a nail stuck in her heel. She was still screaming and now I know why. I ran over and grabbed her hand, "squeeze it whenever you need to. " Sure enough as soon as I said that I felt like my hand was going to fall off.
We finally got the nail out and cleaned her foot 2 hours later. Karen and I sat on the couch awaiting the interrogation. Of course my mother didn't ask me anything because she never came upstairs, but Karen's dad had a hell of a lot of questions for us. After we finished answering all his questions, he threatened to call the cops on us because he could smell the smoke on us. We knew he had been drinking so we didn't really worry about the call.
A little later that night I went downstairs got changed, and plopped on the couch to watch TV. My mom didn't come out of her room that whole night.
