I don't expect too much. Life is much simpler that way.
"Thanks again." I slam the door to Scott's jeep just before he drove off.
He just drove off. Like he was in a hurry to get away from me. No, your welcome or goodbye. Way to make a girl feel special, eh Scott?
Nah, I didn't actually care. I have much bigger things to worry about at this moment, like being late for work and being angry at Amber for leaving me to fend for myself. I still don't understand why she just left me there. As if I would manage to maneuver my way out of that awkward situation. She knows how I am - I definitely cannot be put in situations like that. It scares me to be honest.
As soon as I walk into the Tea Barn, I stare daggers at Amber causing her to look at me fearful. I begin heading toward the counter, my hands balled up into tiny weak fists. She quickly runs off in an attempt to hide from me but I run after her.
My boss, Eric tried talking to me, "Carina, you're late-"
"Amber!" I find her hiding in the employee bathroom. "How dare you?!"
"Whoa, calm down prudence," she chuckles nervously, trying to lighten the mood.
I falter, "It's not funny. Y-you just left me half naked without any of my stuff, in front of that kid. Like I was nude on his property. Do you know how embarrassing that was?" I ramble on, my cheeks growing hot from frustration. "I mean look at what I'm wearing,"
She looks down at the baggy clothes and began laughing hard. Angry with her immature reaction, I lightly swat her shoulder which only made her laugh harder than before. I tried to stand my ground but her laugh is just too contagious and I suddenly find myself giggling along with her.
"Look I really am sorry. Just, you're like this innocent adorable child thing and it's just so funny," she recollects herself as did I. "This whole situation turned out weird, but I'm guessing by your attire that you ended up in bed with some Casanova?"
I hit her shoulder harder this time and she winces, "No I did not end up in bed with a guy. I was forced into his house though. That kid Scott-"
"Scott lives in Willow? I fucking hate that kid," I chuckle at the disgusted look on her face.
"He was nice to me, he helped me after you just left. What's so bad about him?"
She shakes her head. "He's troublesome, more so than me. Everything from drugs to a criminal record and everything in between. That's all that I really-"
"Girls, get to work before you both end up fired!" Eric shouts, angry with our lack of participation in the shop.
We giggle for a short moment, but quickly get down to work after I change into my work clothes. Today was surprisingly busy, we had a lot of customers which isn't typical for the Tea Barn. It was an expensive shop but hell, people here had the money and the tea was totally worth it.
It felt as if this day couldn't have gone slower - from sneaking into the lake, to standing half naked before Scott, to wanting to lash out at Amber. Today would hopefully be just a clouded memory by tomorrow.
