Once upon a time in the lurking waters of the Enchanted Forest, lived the island of the mer people. A small, breathtaking island, but a long forgotten one at that. Fraise Cove was the name.
Now, this island was secluded from the rest of the land. Only the most courageous and bravest of sailors would ever think to wander out here, and not many did. The poor souls that did often wrecked before they even reached the island, thanks to the siren songs of the mermaids under the King's command.
The King hated humans and anything to do with them. He insisted that humans were evil creatures, out to kill anything they didn't understand. They'd catch them and torture them, or at least that is what the King would tell everyone.
Who was this king you may ask? King Neptune of course, ruler of the ocean. He wasn't all that terrible, making sure that everything was swimming smoothly in his kingdom. He especially made sure that his seven daughters were always protected and taken care of, because nothing and no one meant more to him than they did. However, he always seemed to keep a closer eye on his youngest daughter, Aquamarine.
Aquamarine was anything but satisfied with being royalty, being a princess wasn't all it was cracked up to be. Constantly being watched by her fathers guards, not to mention her six older sisters who had no idea what the word privacy meant. She was never able to get away with anything, she was never able to just be herself.
She constantly thought about how she didn't fit in with everyone. What she wants most, is to explore everything the world had to offer. More specifically, she wanted to go on land. She had heard so many stories over the years about pirates and their ships, and she would do anything to actually see one in person. She didn't care what anyone else thought, she didn't understand how a world that makes such wonderful things, could be bad. Maybe that's where she belonged, on land with the humans. She'd prove to everyone that they're not all bad, if she could only figure out a way to get up there.
"Hello?! Earth to Aqua!", Alana, the eldest sister said swimming up behind her. "What?...Oh, sorry I was just thinking about stuff.", Aqua said turning to face her sister. "About what? You've got to stop thinking so much, you don't need to when you literally have everything you could ever ask for.", Alana said sitting down next to her. Aquamarine sighed, "Not everything...", she whispered under her breath, causing Alana to raise her eyebrow. "You wouldn't understand Lana.", she said, making Alana spring up. "I wouldn't understand? Aqua come on what is it? If somethings wrong you know you can tell me...or is this about a boy?!", she said and smiled wide, excitement evident in her voice. Aquamarine smiled and rolled her eyes. "I mean...yeah a little.", she said hesitantly, looking down at her tail. "Oh my god! It is a boy! Tell me everything! Who is he!?", Alana said and Aqua immediately cut her off. "I haven't met him yet, not that I'll probably ever get the chance to anyways.", she said with a sigh, swimming over to her window.
Alana frowned. "What do you mean? Aqua we'll find the right guy for you. We'll search the entire kingdom, even other kingdoms if we have to. We're not stuck here you know.", she said looking over at Aqua, hoping to cheer her sister up. Aqua faked a smile, letting out a faint chuckle. "Yeah but we are stuck in the ocean.", she let out before she quickly realized what she said, covering her mouth with her hand, her eyes wide as she looked over at Alana. "I can't believe this! Aqua please tell me you're not talking about a human!", she said concerned as she swam over to the window where Aqua was. Aqua quickly turned away from her sister, only causing the older girl to gasp. "You are talking about humans! Father would kill you if he heard you talking like this! You know what he says about them Aqua.", Alana shouted, trying to talk some sense into her sister.
"What if he's wrong Alana?! What if they're not bad?! I don't care what father says, I think they're good.", Aquamarine shouted back, standing up for herself for once. Alana crossed her arms. "Oh yeah? And how exactly would you know if humans are good or not? You can't just assume things Aqua.", she said and Aquamarine began to break down. "What if all the things he said aren't true? See, I told you you weren't going to understand!", she yelled before she began swimming as fast as she could out of the palace, still hearing the shouting of her sister from behind.
She just couldn't take it anymore. She was right, no one understood her. She couldn't believe that Alana wasn't on her side with all of this. She hoped that for once she'd understand what she was going through, but she should had known that when it came to humans, no one was willing to give them a chance. However, she'd show them. She'd prove to her father, her sisters, and everyone else that humans aren't as bad as they're made out to be.
She decided to swim over to the shore of the island, the secret place she'd always wander off to when she needed to think, or just get away. It was just a simple rock she could rest on that laid just above the water, perfect to give her a good look of the world above the ocean. She'd seen the island a thousand times, all there was to see was an abandoned palace, but she hoped one day she'd be able to explore the entire island herself.
She laid down on the rock, the wind blowing through her golden blonde hair, the waves crashing beneath her. A tiny little crab occupied her thoughts for a moment before something else caught her eye, causing her to squint. In the distance of the horizon, a mysterious object started to get closer and closer by the minute. The harsh rays of the sun making it more difficult for her to figure out what it was. As it began to clearly come into view, her eyes widened, lit up you could even say. A smile grew on her face as she finally realized what the object was. A ship. The biggest ship she had ever seen.
She sat up on the rock and stared at the everso beautiful ship coming towards the island. Quickly, her smile began to fade as she realized what would become the fate of all of the humans on the ship. Her sisters would sing their siren song and lure them in while her father would use his magic trident to destroy them and their ship. They were all going to die unless she did something about it, and she wasn't going to let that happen. She couldn't let any more humans die on her watch.
This was her chance to change everything.
