"Dr. Pearson, you are needed in the ER. A married couple got into a car accident. The blonde woman is pretty banged up. She needs blood transfusion and a few stitches on her temple. The other woman is suffering a head injury, several ribs are broken. Her sternum, pelvis and femur are also fractured. And she is nine months pregnant. The baby is still alive but I don't know if it will remain that way."

"Mrs. Danvers, may I speak to you?"
Kara nodded.
"Your wife is in critical condition and we need your permission to operate on her chest and abdomen. There'll be more operations to follow if her condition is stable."
"What about our unborn child?"
"The chance is slim the baby would survive the first surgery. If we try to deliver the baby via c-section, we could lose your wife. In fact, the termination of the pregnancy will increase her chances of survival" Dr. Pearson explained.
"Are you asking me to choose?"
"I need your words ma'am. Every second counts."
