Amelia's new life started in a hospital room. The lights were artificial and were overwhelming to her eyes, so she threw an arm over her eyes and winced.

"You're awake," she heard a familiar voice say, and she immediately identified it as Jasper's. She rolled over in the direction of his voice and squinted.

"I'm alive?" she frowned, how?

Jasper shook his head sadly, "Not quite."

Amelia frowned, narrowing her eyes at him. To her surprise, her eyes seemed to almost zoom in, and suddenly she was staring at the very surface of his skin. She widened her eyes in understanding. "I'm like you."

Jasper nodded, "I'm sorry."

Amelia pushed herself up with her elbows. "What do you mean?"

Jasper glanced around, his eyes landing on a newspaper on the bedside table. He flipped through a couple pages before coming upon the one he wanted. He handed it gently to Amelia who took it nervously.

"I'm....I'm dead?" She kept staring at the two words, passed away. "I can't be dead!"

Jasper gently grabbed the paper from her hands and placed it on the bedside table, before taking her hand in his own. "I'm sorry. We were able to...well, make you one of us."

She looked down at her hands at his confirmation, and ran a thumb along his hand distractedly. "So... I'll never grow up?" She smiles subtly at this "Ironic, isn't it?"

"How so?"

"I spent my whole life spending time on Neverland, just wanting to stay and never grow old. Then I die because of Neverland, and now I will never grow old."

"Guess you got your wish." Jasper spoke through gritted teeth, and the stern voice snapped her out of her thoughts.

"Jasper?" she whispered, "Did I do something wrong?"

Jasper shook his head "No, I just didn't want this for you, Amelia."

They dipped into a silence after that, Jasper trying to get his emotions in check.

"So..." Amelia broke the silence. "What do I do now? I can't go back to school."

Jasper glanced at the door, "I think Carlisle is better suited to explain that." He stood up and sped to the door, opening it to reveal Carlisle. "I'll leave you to it."

Carlisle sat in front of Amelia, where Jasper was previously sat. "This is going to be hard to hear."

Amelia nodded. "I'm ready."

"We have to keep you out of public eye. As far as everyone knows, you are dead. Your body is being transported to the Mortuary in an hour."

Amelia frowned. "They are burying an empty casket."

"It will be weighted, but yes."

Amelia closed her eyes and placed her head in her hands. "This is all my fault. If I just...didn't insist on trying to live in two worlds."

"Worry about that later. For now..." Carlisle returned to the door and opened it, revealing Alice. She wheeled in a gurney.

"Hop on," Alice pulled back a sheet.  "We aren't bringing you to a morgue, don't worry."

Amelia nodded, pushing herself off the bed. She tried to walk to the gurney, but found herself over in a flash, "Shoot."

Alice grinned. "I'll help you with that later." She aided Amelia in getting on the gurney. "You have to stay very still, otherwise people will freak out."

Amelia nodded, "Got it."

Carlisle began pulling the sheet over Amelia, "See you on the other side."
