Vein walked up to Queen Magma's palace with trembling arms. Don't drop the platter, he constantly reminded himself. The Queen hated it when her lunch came in late. That's because for BloodWings, "breakfast is a snack. Lunch is really the most important meal of the day". Vein might as well kill himself if the buffalo was destroyed.
He had no idea as to why he was so fidgety. He'd done this exactly one-thousand-four-hundred-twelve-times.
At the front of the huge door, there were four guards. They all sneered at Vein as he walked through the mahogany door. Two of the front guards peeled off from their formation to follow Vein as he walked, slowly and trembling. "Get going" snarled one of the guards as she prodded him along with the spear. "The Queen does not like late food."
Vein had been told this a thousand times. He flashed back to the first time he tried serving lunch to the Queen.
He'd been grumpy, as it was two weeks after Gory was killed. He was so mad, in fact, that he didn't notice the stairs as he came up. He tripped, and the whole platter went flying. The cow that was in the platter crashed into the Queen's plate, which smashed it. She ran outside, to find that Vein was down and the guard with him tried to help him up. Queen Magma didn't realize that the guard was helping Vein up, and so she killed the guard. Vein didn't know how; all he knew was that the Queen was angry. But, yet again, she let Vein live because it was only his first time.
He hoped that it wouldn't happen again, but the way things were going, he had a feeling something was going to go wrong . . .
The thought was yanked out as he noticed the Queen, pacing around the private banquet hall.
The guard behind Vein frowned. "What is it, Your Majesty?"
Queen Magma looked up, and Vein was sure she'd rip up the guard. But she only grimaced. "Ah, Fleshdigger, you're the one I need. I have a warring feeling that I should declare war on TimeWings . . . but then I'm not so sure. It's too cold for my warriors, and so I guess that I would lose valuable fighters just for something that was foolish . . ."
"Well, Your Majesty," said the guard whose name is Fleshdigger. "Instead of flying to their Island, you can lead them here. We could provoke them, and so they would try to fight us. But, may I ask, why do you want a war?"
Queen Magma brightened. "Of course! That would work. Now, to answer your question, it's because I want to kill that insufficient Marble."
"Kill a marble?" Vein asked. "Why?"
Queen Magma turned to him and softly said, "No, Vein. I mean the TimeWing." Then she clapped her front talons. "Now, let's have my lunch, shall we?"
And that's when everything went wrong. Vein tried to give it to Magma, but then he passed it to early, and as a result, it fell. The platter smashed to pieces, and the buffalo ran before falling into the lava with a yelp of pain.
Queen Magma turned towards Vein. "What have I told you, all those years ago?" She snarled, her voice rising louder and louder. "WHAT HAVE I TOLD YOU?"
Her screaming surprised Vein so much, he jumped back and lashed his tail wildly, accidentally slashing Fleshdigger's throat with his spikes. And with a yelp of surprise, Fleshdigger fell dead.
