Leaving for Christmas

At 9:45, Hermione, Harry, Ron and Ginny started walking towards the thestral drawn carriages which would take them down to the train station. When they got to the train station, the train was already in the platform, even though it was only 10:10. Hermione said goodbye to Ginny and gave her a hug. Then Harry told Ginny and Ron that he would catch them up so they got on the train and went to sit in their usual carriage before anyone else took it. Once they had gone Harry gave Hermione a hug.

'You sure you can't come?' He asked.

'Harry, we've already talked about it. I would love to come, but I just can't.'

'Fine. But remember to write, it's going to be weird not being with you for Christmas. Especially after everything we've been through.'

'I know Harry. I'm sorry. I'll write, and I promise to make up with Ron when you get back.'

'Well, see you soon Hermione.'

'Bye Harry.'

He got on the train. It was another 5 minutes until it left the platform. When the train was no longer visible, she walked towards the carriages that would take her back up to Hogwarts. Luna was waiting for a carriage too so Hermione walked over to stand with her while they waited. They both got into the same carriage.

'How's Neville?' Hermione asked, trying to make some small talk.

'He's wonderful. We're helping each other study for exams at the moment. Neville's a great help when it comes to revising for Herbology.'

'Is it still his ambition to become a Herbology professor?'

'Yes. And I dare say he'll make a great one too.'

Hermione wasn't really sure what to say to this so she decided to keep quiet.

'I heard about you and Ronald.' Luna said randomly.

'Oh.. Yes.. That didn't quite work out. I think we were just friends for too long. Being in a relationship felt unnatural.'

'But Hermione, that isn't the only reason. Is it?'

'W... What do you mean?'

'You know what I mean. I've seen the way you look at him when you think nobody else is looking.'

'Luna... Please don't tell anyone about that...'

'Don't worry Hermione. I won't tell anyone. I think it's sweet.'

When they arrived back at Hogwarts, they walked through the front doors and up the main staircase. Then, Luna left to go to Ravenclaw common room and Hermione headed to the Gryffindor common room. Once she got there, she collapsed into an armchair by the fire and got out her advanced potions textbook and started reading.

Once she had got tired of reading, she went up to her dormitory and decided to take a nap for a few hours. She woke up again at 2:00, just too late for lunch; not that she was hungry anyway. She got changed because her clothes had got a bit scruffy and Hermione decided that she would take a stroll through the grounds around Hogwarts. She only had two terms left and she was going to make the most of them.

She walked around the lake. As she got closer to the edge of the forest, she noticed that Luna was sitting alone on an old tree stump reading a book, just a little way past the tree line.

'Luna? Are you okay?' Hermione asked.

'I'm great.' She answered.

'Why are you out here on your own? Wouldn't you rather to be with your friends?'

'I don't really have any friends. And besides, I could ask you the same thing.' Hermione felt a pang of sympathy for Luna.

'I'm your friend Luna. And I'm out here alone because all of my other friends have gone back home for Christmas.'

'Thank you Hermione, and I'm your friend too. Anyway, I enjoy being alone; it gives me time to think.' It seemed odd to Hermione that someone would enjoy being in their own so much. But Luna was an odd person.

'Well then I'll leave you to it.'

'You don't have to go Hermione, you can sit out here for a bit if you want.'

'Its okay. I've got a lot of studying to do. I'm trying to get a head start.'

Once she was back in the castle, she decided she would go to the library; her favourite place to study. Hermione headed to the library, her satchel full of textbooks, and took up her usual spot, a hidden corner at the back of the room. She got out her transfiguration books and started to study. After a while, she heard creaking as the door to the restricted section of the library opened. She saw a sleek blond head duck into the room. It didn't take her more than a second to figure out who it was. What could he be doing in there? She decided to follow him, intrigued. She silently followed him in and immediately wished she hadn't.

There he was, leaning against Pansy Parkinson, snogging her like there was no tomorrow. The top few buttons on her shirt undone, to reveal a black lacy bra. One of his hands clutched one of her breasts, while the other was placed on the small of her back. Hermione tried to make a quick getaway before either of them noticed her, but she tripped on the corner of a bookcase and caused a loud bang as a few of the books tumbled down to the floor. Draco immediately recoiled from Pansy, a smug look on his face.

'You filthy little mudblood! What on earth do you think you're doing in here?' Pansy shouted.

'I could ask you the same thing Pansy Parkinson.' Hermione replied, attempting to not sound embarrassed.

'How dare you talk to someone of my blood status like that, Granger.' Pansy had her wand out and she was ready to hex Hermione, when Madam Pince, the librarian, walked in.

'Whats all this racket about? The library is a quiet place! And anyway, what are you three doing in the restricted section without permission? Get out, all of you!' She barked. Immediately, the three of them left; Hermione first, followed by Pansy, who was hurriedly re-doing her shirt buttons, and Draco. Hermione snatched up her school satchel and ran out of the library and back to the common room, to put her bag in the dormitory before dinner.

She sat with Luna at the Ravenclaw table; but she wasn't really in the mood for chatting, after her embarrassing encounter with Draco and Pansy.

They ate their meal mostly in silence, but they both appreciated the company of one another.

'You look dreadful Hermione. You could do with some stress relief. Why don't you go to the prefects bathroom and take a long, relaxing bath? You'll feel so much better.' Luna told Hermione.

'Yeah, I might. It does sound nice.'
