 The umbrella means protection, a shield against bad weather.

For traditional Indians, the umbrella is a symbol of wealth and status.

In ancient Greece, the umbrella was a necessary item for a lady to carry. For men, it was a sign of effeminacy.

With Freud, the umbrella, together with any elongated objects, would lead us to another interpretation: the embodiment of the male member.

In Hong Kong, the umbrella is a widespread accessory used against the sun and pepper sprays.
