-The Pollywog part I-

Pine stepped out of the shower humming Cyndi Lauper. It was early in the morning and El was still asleep. Pine was getting restless. This house was less of a home and more like a prison.

She dried herself off with a towel and brushed her teeth. That's when she found it. So little she'd never seen it before. A tracker. It was behind her ear. The bad men knew where she was, they'd always known. But why hadn't they come yet? Maybe they were waiting for the perfect moment or maybe they weren't looking at all. Maybe the tracker didn't even work anymore. Nonetheless Pine had to get rid of it. So she took some tweezers and painfully got it off. She couldn't stay here anymore. It wasn't safe. Not for her and not for anyone else.

Pine threw on some jeans, a Star Wars shirt she'd gotten at some point, beaten up converse, and a coat. El was still asleep. She wrote a note and left it on the bedside table.
"I'm sorry." She whispered.
Then she left.

With effort Pine had creeped around all the sensors around the house and made her way to an open field far enough away. Pine took the tracker from her pocket and destroyed it then and there. Then she left the field and started walking. It was almost like autopilot. She didn't really think, she was just walking. The air was pleasant, Pine had missed it. She took in everything around her as she walked. It had been so long since she'd been outside.

Somehow she ended up at a familiar front door. She knocked and then she waited.
"Hel-" The teenage boy stopped in mid sentence when he opened the door.
"Hi Thorn." Pine said.
"Wha- Pine? How are you- why- what?"
"I promise I'll explain. Can I come in? It's kinda secret and I'll be in really big trouble if someone finds me."
"Uh... s-sure."
Thorn lead Pine inside and to his room. He figured that would be the best place to be if this was a top secret situation. Which apparently it was. Pine explained her past almost year to Thorn, then she asked him to explain his past year to her. He told her everyone thought she was dead, which she knew already. He also said there was a funeral.
"Wait, so I've had two fake funerals?" She asked almost smiling.
Thorn nodded.
The two shared a brief moment of childish laughter before Thorn continued his story. Turns out neither of their story's were wildly entertaining.
"So, where are you gonna go?" Thorn asked.
"I don't know." Replied Pine "I was hoping maybe you'd know."
The room was silent for a moment.
"You could stay with me." Thorn said.
Pine looked up.
"Really?"
"Yeah."
