Chapter 22

Why would an unknown number tell me not to go to school tomorrow? It was very strange. I decided to blow it off and just sleep.

The next morning, I got ready as if it was a normal day but I also thought about the text from last night.

I got into David's car and he was playing "No One Like You".

"I really like that this song reminds me of you," he said, "because there's no one else who I love."

"Aw babe," I said, although I was feeling a little distracted.

"You okay?" he asked.

"Yeah, it's just that I got a weird text from an unknown number last night that told me not to come to school today," I explained.

"It's probably just a prank," he said.

"Yeah, you're probably right."

"I'll be right back guys, I really need to go to the bathroom," I said to my lunch crew.

"Have fun," said Miranda.

I went into the bathroom and I decided to also text David.

Alina: hey I know you're in class right now but I hope you have a good day :) I love you <3 and I can't wait to see you after school

I wasn't sure why I was feeling so lovey right now, but I just really felt like saying that to him.

After I finished peeing, I washed my hands and left the bathroom. As I was approaching the cafeteria, I realized it was dead silent, which was unusual. Usually, the cafeteria's volume can be heard all the way down the hall from the overwhelming amount of people talking and laughing.

I peered through the doorway, as if I walked in on the perfect moment.

"Everybody, put your hands up!" screamed Ethan.

I gasped quietly and quickly left the cafeteria. I stood by the doorway, trying to listen in on what's going on.

"As long as everyone shuts the fuck up, this will go smoothly," Alex chimed in.

"I'm so sick and tired of being rejected by every girl in this school!" said Ethan.

"Me too!" screamed Alex.

"I'm sick and tired of everyone calling me a greasy furry."

"Yeah.. me too. Do y'all not have any original insults?"

I heard gunshots and I started to run. I grabbed my things and I ran out the door. I started sobbing, not wanting to know what happened in there. I saw cops surrounding the school, one of them took me and let me stay inside her police car.

I didn't remember much, I tried to block out what little I did see happening. I couldn't help but to think that either Ethan or Alex warned me not to come to school because they knew they were going to shoot it up.

It made me sick to think that I was probably on Ethan's hit list since he mentioned being rejected and I had just rejected him the other day.

Then I gasped, "David."
