Kita rolled down the ramp on Arcee out of the C-5 Galaxy parked at the far end of the Kona International Airport runway away from the terminals. They pulled to one side as Bumblebee and Adrestia exited. Ratchet came next with Ryan trailing. He was flirting with a crewmember of the C-5 and anytime during the flight she hadn't been busy Ryan was in her ear.
The three vehicles clustered together as Kita dismounted and Adrestia exited Bumblebee.
"Found a friend?" said Kita teasing Ryan.
"Ah, yeah. She's cool and told me how she's flown all over the world."
"Maybe you should ask her out," said Adrestia.
Ryan rubbed the back of his neck. "I was going to ask Kita if she'd talk to the princess about it. I don't know if I'm allowed."
"Officers are allowed to date other officers."
"Really? I wonder if she can get some time off. Kita, do you think you can talk to the princess?"
Kita scowled. "Why do I have to ask?"
"Because you and her get...along...so well."
"Way to be smooth," said Adrestia. "Lucky for you everyone here knows Kita is sleeping with the princess."
"You slept with her?" gasped Ryan.
"What do you think I was doing with her?" said Kita in a huff. "And she's my girlfriend for the record."
"Moving up," said Adrestia. "Guess these means I have to call you Your Highness."
"That's the last thing I want."
"They do complement each other well," said Arcee.
"I'm surprised you agreed to this," said Adrestia. "You seem very protective of Kita."
"I am, and it was my idea. I have my reasons, and I believe it will make Kita and I stronger."
"I didn't know the princess was gay. She's never given any signals."
"She just needed an opportunity to understand herself better."
"You do make an imposing couple," said Ryan.
Kita looked over her sunglasses at him. "What's that supposed to mean?"
"—Kimmy is the princess, and you're like fearless and don't take shit from anyone...including Kimmy."
The roar of jet engines made everyone turn as Air Force Three rolled by and came to a stop. A trio of motorized stairs were chasing after it. The tail opened, and a ramp extended. Three black SUVs drove out and parked next to the plane.
Kita watched the door in greedy anticipation. Kimmy offered for her to ride on Air Force Three, but Kita elected to ride with Arcee. Kimmy was disappointed, but Kita told her to get her work done so they would have the next two days free. Now, Kita wished she'd flown with Kimmy. She missed her.
The door to Air Force Three opened, and the Secret Service agents ran out and took their positions. Kimmy appeared and walked down the stairs. She ignored the SUVs and walked the hundred yards to Kita and her group.
Kita squelched the urge to run to Kimmy and kiss her. The airport was public, and Kita didn't want to ruin Kimmy's public image. So, she waited, a hand on Arcee.
When Kimmy was hidden by the C-5, Kita couldn't take it anymore. She hurried over to meet Kimmy and gave her a warm hug.
"Hey," said Kita. "Did you have a good flight?"
