HALO: Return of Master Chief

Chapter 6

Location: The Frigate

Time: 20:49:25

"Captain Keyes, he is going to crash land in a few hours." Cortana reported, as I walk around the hologram table. The longer I wait, it would be harder to find him. Only a few hours until The Master Chief lands on Earth. I take my cap from my hand and place it on my head, all in uniform. Still waiting, Cortana just waits for any response. "Where is the Rookie at the moment Cortana?"

"They should be close to finding the other ODST. If we tell them now, they could probably be able to find him once he lands."

"So, I will tell the commander to communicate them. Once they are to find Master Chief, we can end this invasion and take back our world." I spoke out, filling my voice with pride. "Right away, Sir" Cortana spoke before fading away. I walk over to grab my black leather chair and set it in front of the window. Then, I sit watching the space go by. I start thinking of all the battles that we've gone through with the covenant and high charity. After the battle of installation 00, things turned for the worst. Our relation with the covenant soon broke after. The Arbiter had left his position because all of the betrayal that started within themselves. Now the majority of the covenant decided to attack earth like how the war started. Once they see that the Master Chief has returned, then they will see who has the right to be on earth.

A new line of Spartans are in the process. This isn't just the start, it's a new beginning, a new generation where we don't grow weaker, but we grow stronger!

I stay and watch the past go through my mind. All the leaders and the death of leaders. Soon we will have peace again and the UNSC is in control.

Location: Close to City Center

"This is a mission update Rookie. I've been informed that a pod is heading to your direction. I need you to find the other ODST and find that pod. It will land about a quarter of a mile due north of City Center. Once you've reached the location, contact me immediately, understood?" the Commander ordered through the communicator. "Yes sir"

"I'll be watching," he then ended. So far, we have dealt with Hunters, Elites, Jackles and snipers. Both Romeo and I are about two blocks away from the location of the others. Romeo walks a couple feet behind in case he spots something up ahead and also for his back. My leg injury from the sniper shot had healed a bit, so I'm able to walk and run normally.

"What do you think is in the pod?" Romeo asked, while looking up at buildings in the shadow. We've had to walk on other sides of streets for more cover. I tried to think what was in it too, but nothing came to mind. The commander must know what it is for wanting to be contacted immediately. "I'm not sure, but something important."

"Stay still, I've got one at my one," Romeo froze raising his sniper gun. I stood still and leaned against the wall watching for any scouts walking around. No one seemed to be around, but I still kept my guard. A moment not too soon, I heard Romeo shoot and a rifle fall down the building. "Got ya"

Signaling that it was clear, we both moved on towards City Center. It was also getting dark, it must have been around eight o'clock at the moment. Our helmet HUDs soon polarize and turn to night vision. One thing that I admire for being an ODST are the suits. Besides being a Spartan I think the ODST are the best in the UNSC.  

After about twenty minutes, we both stand in the corner to City Center. It was a round street that wraps around a memorial made of concrete. There fuel trunks parked just on the other side. Everything seemed quiet. I wonder where the others are hiding.

"Buck, it's the Rookie. We are at the corner on the south side, what's your twenty?" I ask through the communicator. Soon after one of the tall buildings had a flashing through the glass window. It must be them signaling because then three other windows were flashing in a pattern. "It's Morse code, they are saying ODST," Romeo explained.

Walking between pillars and walls. Everything had seemed untouched, as if nothing happened here. Once entering what now seems a hotel, we were met by another ODST. "The names Mickey, private first class, and you are?"

"I'm called the Rookie and this is Romeo, both lance corporals." Mickey looked at both of us for a moment. While we were all in a silent moment, I had realized that I haven't eaten in probably two days. Wow, time passes by without realizing it. "Well, a pleasure to meet the two, follow me, the others are in the upper floors."

After walking up two floors we entered a suite where the rest were. There, we saw loads of ammunition and weapons, from also the covenant. The place was all comfortable looking with two rooms and a living room and all. We soon walked in to the back side of the living room towards the windows, where they must have signaled us.

"You must be the Rookie, I'm Buck and these are Dutch and Dare," Buck introduced the others. All their suits seem about the same with minor color detail differences, like the shoulders. Dutch seemed to be beat up a bit from the scar just over his left eye. Mickey just walked to the window and watched outside.

"Here we take turns to keep look out for any scouts close to us. We also have a good supply of food and water. You look like you haven't eaten in a while." Buck spoke out. I set my rifle down and followed Buck to a room filled with food and snacks. "This is a hotel so there are many things to go around Rookie."

I just looked around the shelves for some kind of snack. There were chips, pastries, canned food and fruit. I just chose a can with chicken soup and headed back to the living room with the others. Romeo seemed to be relaxed on the leather sofa as he talked to Dare. Not after taking off the helmet I noticed Dare was a female ODST, I'm not surprised because there are others, but it still intrigues me. Not much happened after eating so we were able to get some shut eye.

Time: 22:29:06

"Hey, Buck, I got something here heading north in the sky." Dare spoke. I had told them about the pod the going to crash, so everyone had gotten geared up and waited. Looking out the window, I saw far ahead was a pod a little bigger than usual starting to turn red from entering the atmosphere. It also left a trail of smoke in the air, which does concern me most of all. We aren't the only ones seeing this, so I except to see some covenant soon. After reloading my rifle and grabbing extra ammunition, we all walked down to the entrance of the hotel. Just then, I saw what I had expected. Three covenant drop ships had passed by heading for the direction of the pod.

Here is where the battle begins.
