He was exhausted from what had happened, not with what he had to do to save the world from Loki's Chirauri Army, or what he had to do to help his brother with the Extremis issue he had. James had gone through so much and he knew that that was going to be his life for the next few decades, or if he was to die on the battlefield as a soldier. James knew that there were quite a few things that were going to take up his mind the longer that he dealt with his new life, but he was sure that he would make it through.
Standing in his apartment, he looked out the large window that overlooked New York. Clean up was still occurring in New York, even after all of the time since the Battle of New York had come and gone. James and Tony donated money to help them with the cleanup, seeing as that was the least that the two of them could do. Tony was the one to fly through a wormhole to dispose of a nuke, and he felt guilty. He felt as if he had a debt to repay for what had happened, and James felt the same. There were things that they had to do, and that was what they had done.
He glanced over his shoulder to the large television that was recapping what was going on in Washington D.C., and he knew everyone that was involved at the Triskelion, all of them including his friends. Natasha Romanoff, Steve Rogers, Scarlett Rowan, and Charlotte Rogers; all of them playing a part with the fall of S.H.I.E.L.D and it was something that he had to accept. Everyone had to accept what had happened with S.H.I.E.L.D, and he knew what Natasha had done when she had leaked all of S.H.I.E.L.D's files, exposing those who had worked with HYDRA previously and amongst all other things.
There were things that James would've rathered kept under wraps, but he couldn't stay upset with what Natasha had done. There were so many other options that she could've taken, but the longer that James thought over what she had done, he knew that it was the only choice that she could make. That what she had done, would've been the exact same things that he would've done himself, things that he would've done, among others.
The Stark man walked over to his kitchen and he picked up a mug and filled it with hot coffee, and he brought it to his lips. That was when he could hear the door to his loft open and close, and, soon enough, he found the red-haired Natasha Romanoff throwing her jacket onto the couch and she approached him. The redhead gave him a smile as she reached for the mug in his hands and took the beverage from his hand and brought it to her lips as she took a swig, before handing it back to him.
"Well, you've been busy," James commented as he brought the mug to his lips, and he watched as she hopped onto the counter, crossing her legs at the ankles. "So, what was so bad that you and the others had to destroy three S.H.I.E.L.D helicarriers?"
"Oh, James, please tell me that you were ignoring the entire thing," Natasha replied to him as she narrowed her gaze at him, shaking her head slightly. "I know that you have been keeping tabs about what the others and I were doing, we were doing what was right and we saved the world from another crisis. HYDRA had infiltrated S.H.I.E.L.D and they were going to use the Helicarriers to kill dozens of people."
"I take it that it wasn't all Steve's idea?" James questioned with a quirked brow. "I believe that it was all Nick Fury's."
Natasha's face fell serious as she glared at him, tearing the coffee mug from his grasp and slammed it against the counter, "You knew that he was alive and that he had faked his death, didn't you?" James gave her a small smirk and she shook her head at him, her lips parted in disbelief. "I can't believe you."
"What? That I knew something that the super spy Natasha Romanoff didn't?" James questioned her and she just shook his head. "Look, I've been an agent with Nick Fury for quite some time, I think that earns me a little bit of insight with what he was doing. It was a good plan and I had to help him go through with it." Natasha's face began to distort into disgust, but that was when James spoke again. "And before you give me any more attitude than you already have, you have hidden much worse from me in the time that we've known each other, Natalia."
His phone began to ring and he held his hand up to her, digging the phone out of his pocket and answered it. Natasha watched him as he spoke on the phone, and she noticed his entire mood shifted as he spoke to whoever it was on the other side of the line. She could assume that it was Tony calling him, or even Nick Fury, but there was something about his entire demeanor that set something off in her mind to figure out what it was that was wrong.
A sigh left his lips as he pinched the bridge of his nose and hung up the phone, slipping it into his back pocket. His hands went to his hips and she shook his head as his chin was lowered. There was a pregnant pause in the apartment and he turned back to face her. But she wasn't prepared with what the younger Stark man was about to say.
"It appears that I'm needed by Nick Fury, he has a mission for me," James replied to her and she nodded her head. The Stark man approached her and rested a hand on her cheek, before giving it a gentle pat as he grabbed his leather jacket off of the back of the stool in front of the counter and he made his way out of the loft.
Seeing what the hell the newest mission entailed him.
