Hoping to get back to the main subject at hand, I spoke up. "Okay, so how do we summon the memory demon?"
Magnus turns towards me, speaking clearly as if it was somewhat obvious. "The memory demon isn't for you, it's for Clary."
"Then how do I get my memories back?" I asked, getting slightly irritated with how we always seem to be coming back to the same question.
Sighing, Magnus shrugs, waving his hands around. "That requires more of a History lesson..." Magnus starts. He turns slightly, facing Jace who is standing off in the corner. "...For both of you."
Jace looks confused, "What do I have to do with this?" Although Jace looked confused, his eyes seemed to look in wonder, as if he knew he was part of the bigger picture.
Magnus smirks at Jace, seeming to read into my own thoughts as well. "Oh, you'll see. In the meantime though..." he walks over to a desk, picking up a small box. He makes his way over to Clary, opening the box and extending it towards her. Inside sit chalk, the shine and glow of them making me think they were enchanted somehow.
Clary's eyes widened as her fingers glided over the chalk. "Their beautiful. But what am I supposed to do with it?"
"First, draw out what you remember. What you feel. Then, when you feel you're done, draw this," he hands her a piece of paper. On it sits a large symbol that is etched with detail. Magnus smirks as Clary takes it, "Enjoy." He then leaves Clary to her work, turning to Jace and I, "Now, you two."
Magnus motions with his hand for me to sit on the empty couch and for Jace to come closer. Clary steps out of the room, hoping to get some quiet time while she draws. Izzy and Alec stand off to the side, seeming to listen or whisper comments to each other. But my attention is focused on Magnus.
"Have either one of you heard about a Shadowhunter's Connection?" Magnus asks, looking between Jace and me.
Jace stands behind the couch, crossing his arms as he looks puzzled. "You mean a binding ruin that you're born with?"
Magnus made a face that matched his next two words, "Not exactly. A Shadowhunter's Connection is stronger than any binding spell or ruin. Two people, born to be together, become one. These connections used to be tales, stories for people who wanted to find love. Until, it happened to two Shadowhunters a hundred years ago. They both were born, and when they met each other, their marks started to show."
"Marks?" I asked, unsure of what he meant.
"A ruin," Magnus clarified, making me recall what I saw when I helped Jace track this place. "One that was born there, never placed. This symbol matches each other's, binding them in love, thoughts, and even emotions."
I shook my head, unsure what it would have to do with me. I don't have any ruins or marks on me. "What does that have to do with me?"
Magnus glanced over at me, slightly annoyed, "I'm getting there."
My head turns and a sigh of irritation leaves my lips. I didn't want a History lesson or tales, I wanted answers. I wanted my memories.
Seeing this, Magnus gets to the point. "It has everything to do with you, Faith Fairchild, because you are connected..." His head turns to Jace, giving off a somewhat fake smile, "...To Jace Wayland."
I don't even look at Jace, too caught up in my own mouth parting and my eyes going wide in shock. "What?" I asked, my mind going fuzzy as I tried to comprehend all of this.
"When you were five, you were with your father, in a park. That's where you met Jace. Instantly you two became best friends, and your marks started to form. By the time your father had gotten you home to your mother, it was already there. Your mother, not wanting you to be a part of this life yet, to be safe, came to me in hopes I could erase the mark. I told her if I did so, it would kill you and your connection," He motions towards Jace. "So, she went with a less guarantee kill. She had me hide it, conceal it, and erase your memories of it and Jace. By doing that to you, it did the same for him."
