wildflower

she's a wildflower on the highway
sprawled out neat and pretty on a black sheet
white lines stretched across the california desert
swore on her heart she'd live to see the sky turn
purple then orange
red lines on the horizon
she never did see.

gather up handfuls of sand,
watch them crumble up and
burn in your hand

she's a wildflower
and she's soaring
through the empty streets
ghost town tumbleweed,
cue the credits;
an old western heartbreak
