"You're not going on this date," Liam said. "I forbid it. I absolutely forbid it."
I rolled my eyes. "A deal's a deal, Liam. He held up his end of the bargain, so I'm holding up mine."
"How do you know he did?" Liam said. "For all we know, Joel could just be on a break."
I raised an eyebrow. "Do you really think that?"
He sighed. "No. I just don't want you going on this date with him, Hales."
"I don't wanna go either, but we've got no choice. I'm gonna go see how Brooke is doing. She should be better now, it's been four days."
I got up from the couch and walked up to Brooke's room. I knocked once and walked in. Brooke was sitting up with her knees up. All the bruises were gone.
"Hey," I said. "How's the legs?"
"Just dandy," she said. "As long and luscious as always. How's the hand?"
I showed her my bandaged wrapped hand. "It's doing good. It should be healed by tonight."
"Just in time for your date," Brooke teased.
I smiled. "I still think we should send a cardboard cut out of me and send it on the date with Jackass."
"I thought he was Asshat?"
"Oh yeah, that's right. Yours is Jackass, and mine's Asshat."
"And together they are the Asses."
We laughed, and Brooke rubbed her throat. "Be a doll and get me some water will ya? My throat hurts like a bitch."
"Of course. Anything for my Brookey." I made kissy faces at her.
She laughed and threw a pillow at me. I ducked to avoid it and walked downstairs to get Brooke her water.
"She's better," I sang to Liam and did a happy dance.
Liam grinned. "You're so weird, Hales."
I grinned. "You know you love me."
"That can be debated."
I stuck my tongue out at him. "You're just jealous that I'm more awesome than you."
"Will you two idiots stop arguing like little kids and get me my freaking water before I come downstairs and kick both of your asses all the way to New Mexico!" Brooke yelled.
"I've never been to New Mexico, is it nice?" I called up to her, grinning.
"Keep arguing and you'll find out!"
I laughed and got her some water. "All's looking good now."
"Yeah, if you count you going on a date with Tyler as good," Liam said.
I pointed my finger at him threateningly. "Don't put a damper on my mood. I'm happy for the first time in two weeks, don't ruin this."
Liam put his hands up in surrendor. "Alright, I give."
"Good boy." I patted his head and ran to give Brooke her water.
But when I got there, however, she wasn't in her room. She was in mine.
"What are you doing?" I asked slowly.
"Oh good, you're back," she said, looking over her shoulder at me. "Now what do you think: heels or flats?"
