The bus came to a screeching halt in front of the student infested school. I snap out of my daze and swivel my head around to see everyone getting off the bus. I quickly grab my bag and bolt for the front of the bus. I get behind Ryan and hop off.

"Someone daydreaming on the bus?" He teases and I punch the back of his arm. "Hardy har har, no I wasn't," I admit and walk beside him while we enter the dreaded high-school.

"Sure seemed like it, anything interesting in your headspace?" He asked looking down at my 5'3 figure compared to his 5'9.

"Nothing..." I spit back at him followed with a grumble as I stuff my fists into the pockets of my hoodie. He emits an unsatisfied huff while he dismisses my answer and chooses not to press further which I gladly accepted with open arms.

We both waltzed into the hallway filled to the brim with humans of our own age while I scoff at the sight of the not so fortunate "fresh-meat" who got her books tossed to the floor by the freeloaders who think they own this school.

"Serves you right for bumping into me b***h, learn your place." The senior snapped down at the freshman girl who was scrambling around the floor for her books and papers.

I walk up to the guy, look him up and down and knee him in the balls before bringing his arm toward me so he was eye height for my short stature. "Listen to me bastard, mess with the freshmen one more time and it won't be your tiny a** sack that hurts next time." I threaten while he tries to give protection to his sensitive parts with his ego between his legs.

I let go as he runs off with the rest of his naive gang members and then bend down to help the poor girl. "Here let me help you," I offer to her as I place her books into her small arms and help her back up.

"T-thank you so much, J-jade r-right?" She thanks me and guesses correctly. I nod in agreement and push strands of her hair out of her face. "You're correct. Don't let anyone run you over ok? Ever need help with those idiots again, call me." I offer and she gives a bright smile before heading to her class just when the minute bell rings.

Ryan leans up against the lockers at the side of the hallway with a smirk over his face. "Thought Thomas was gonna get more than a knee to the balls but that works too." He jokes and I nudge his arm.

"Come on we're gonna be late for English," I state as we walk to our class.

See I don't let anyone get bullied in this school. Not on my watch. Just because their younger and smaller doesn't mean you have the right to beat them up. Just ticks me off.

I make my way into our classroom the moment the tardy bell rang. I feel satisfied when things land at the right times, it's just perfect. But not to my English teacher.

"Jade Williams and Ryan Klotts, always right on the bell. Don't you both ride the bus to school? You should be in my room before the bell rings even a few seconds earlier would be much appreciated." She nags while we find our seats at the back of the classroom.

"Sorry I couldn't find my notebook and Ryan was helping me find it in my locker." I lied while she responds with a huff. I turn my head toward Ryan and receive a cocky smirk from him and chuckle I in response.

"So class, before we were rudely interrupted by Mrs. Williams and Mr. Klotts, please finish your bell-work then turn to page 205 in Fahrenheit 451." Mrs. Anderson announces while I grumble in my seat from calling Ryan and myself out for arriving "just on time".

I pull my binder out from my bag when a paper falls out of it and onto the floor. A completely black notecard sits on the ground staring back at me while it captures my attention. A heel stomps on top of it and I quickly flip my gaze up to the owner of the fancy stiletto.

Of course, Mrs. Anderson. She glared at me before bending over and flashing her plastic surgery into the poor innocent soul that sits beside me. She wraps her perfectly painted fingernails around the black note like a claw latching onto its prey. She pulls it off from underneath her stiletto. She stands back up straight and glances at the note before placing it back onto my desk.

"Blank...useless. Get to work." She blurted rather sharply before click-clacking away with those heels against the white tile back to her desk. I could have sworn she wanted to kill me at that moment. Ever since the beginning of the year, she has had this expected hatefulness towards me for no reason whatsoever.

I slip the black note into my back pocket before opening my paper filled binder to the bell-work section. I fill out the sentence she wanted us all to write down before pulling out Fahrenheit 451 from my backpack and flipping to the designated page.

The book audio played from the speakers and the author continued where we left off from yesterday. I feel my eyes drift while the letters turned to blurred blocks luring me to sleep. The monotone voice wasn't helping either.

I hear a crack sound from the corner of my desk as a ruler slapped the wood while I jolt awake. "Stay awake Williams." She sneered before lifting her dangerous ruler from my abused desk. I blink rapidly and nod in response while I continued to read with the class and the voice.

I feel my bum get rapidly hot and quickly pull out the black note that resided in my pocket. Letters burned into the paper and engraved it precisely.

"I've been waiting for you. Meet me at the back of the school after lunch." It wrote across the midnight-black card and my heartbeat quickened substantially.
