When They Learn Numbers-Turtle Tots

Start from the beginning

But Raph doesn't do anything. The numbers are all jumbling up in his head, making him frustrated.

He tries one: 2+2=? He doesn't know what to do! Is the answer 3? 5? He just doesn't understand!

Finally, he slams his pencil down so hard that it breaks, and rips the page out of his book, tearing it up and throwing tit book on the floor, hard.

"Raphael!" Splinter says in shock. "My son! what is the matter? Why did you wreck your book and pencil?" He asks.

Raph crosses his arms as frustrated tears leak from his emerald orbs. "I hate math!" He screams, before burying his face in his arms and sobbing.

Splinter gives you a look of encouragement as he continues to help the boys with their worksheets. They glance back but continue working.

You pick him up rub his shell comfortingly while murmuring soothing things. "Shhh, Raphie, calm down sweetie, you're ok."

He sniffles and looks up at you with tear-filled eyes. "I hate math mummy." He says grumpily.

"Why sweetheart? Can you tell me? Maybe I can help you." You say warmly, wiping the tears away.

"I can't do it! I'm too stupid! I can't even count to 10 and even Mikey's better at it than me!" He says, becoming upset.

You sigh, recalling a similar situation with Mikey when he was learning to read for the first time.

"You are not stupid Raphie, you are very smart, you just need more practice. Remember when Mikey was learning to read?"

He nods slowly, feeling a tiny bit better. "Yeah, but that's different, math is way harder than reading!" He says unhappily.

"Not really honey, reading can be hard for someone like Mikey, but math is easy for him." You explain gently.

He thinks about that for a moment and sighs. "I guess so, but I still don't get math, I can't count to 10." He says sadly.

"Well, maybe Donnie or Leo or Mikey can help you! then it won't seem a hard and you won't get so frustrated." You suggest.

He thinks about that and smiles. "Ok mummy, thanks." He says happily, starting to feel a lot better about numbers and math.

You give him a hug. "Your welcome sweetheart, just keep trying and you'll eventually get it." You say encouragingly.

He goes back to his spot and you give him a new pencil. You also give him another page of practice problems to work on.

When you notice him getting frustrated, you hand him a little red ball. "What's this?" He says when he gets it.

"It's a stress ball, when you feel yourself getting frustrated, you can squeeze it so you don't break your pencil again." You say.

He nods and squeezes it tightly, muttering under his breath. "I can do this, stupid numbers can't stop me!" You smile.

After a long time, all of your sons including Raph finish the problems. only missing a few of the harder ones. Raph does better than before, he only misses one or two.

"Hey Raphie, if you want I can help you with your math, I like math! I can help you count to 10!" Mikey offers kindly.

"Ok, thanks Mikey." Raph says with a smile. "I think I prefer reading rather than dumb old math!" He and Mikey laugh.

"I like math more, reading is sooo hard!" Mikey giggles, looking at the book in discrace.

"Do you worry you two, if you practice and help each other then you will get better and it will be easier." Splinte assures.

Mikey and Raph both smile, promising to both keep trying to get better at their struggles.

Mikey's struggle is reading. Raph's struggle is math. Together, they can overcome their struggles.

" Math can be hard sometimes. "
