~SISTERS~

"Why are you here?" Isolde asked Torren as she lay in her bedroom staring at the ceiling. Her younger sibling had been that way for hours. When she showed up at their family home in New Boston, Texas, she figured out pretty quickly that something was out of place.

"Nothing." She lied to her older sister. Telling her sister a lie wouldn't prevent the truth from coming out. It only served to prolong the inevitable until she figured out the best way to approach the matter at hand.

Her brain was an unrelenting traitor. It managed to create a picture of him whenever she closed her eyes, slept, rested, or did just about anything. There seemed to be no forgetting him. Minute after minute wasted into hours and she was still haunted by visions of the sexiest man she ever had the pleasure of meeting... feeling... craving.

Torren felt like an insane person because she could not get him out of her mind. No matter what she tried to do, he had control over her that made her nervous and she was worried her family would figure out what was going on with her.

Worst of all, Torren was sure her sister would figure out everything in no time at all. Once Isolde caught a whiff of anything out of order, she refused to give it up until she discovered the whole truth.

"Girl, you know that won't work with me. You might as well tell me what's going on so we can hash this out. Anyone with or without eyes can see that something is out of place." The detective was on the move. Torren could deny all she wanted to deny, but at this point, she would end up telling her sister everything sooner or later.

"Alright... alright... alright. For crying out loud. You are so damn nosy. I should have gone overseas where I could get some peace and quiet." Torren responded in the rudest and cranky fashion that came to mind.

"Tee... please don't make me whoop you. I don't know who you are cussing at, but you better fix that before momma and daddy hear you using foul language in their house." Isolde scolded her use of profanity. Torren knew better because her parents were good Christian folks.

"I'm sorry. I shouldn't have cussed, but you are driving me a little bit crazy with the non-stop questioning. I left the city to get a break from the phones, the people, and the incessant talking." She explained her crankiness to her sibling.

"I'm sorry you're dealing with some mess right now, but there is a right and a wrong way to handle it. Stop trying to buy yourself more time and just go ahead and fess up. I can see trouble written all over your face, honey." Isolde informed her.

Torren looked away in hopes of finding a distraction. Of course, she was unsuccessful and her sister was still waiting for her explanation.

"The fact that you came home without that divine white chocolate morsel you've been dating tells me that you guys are most likely having some problems. Spill it. Stop trying to fix it up and make it pretty. Tell me what's going on." Torren rolled her eyes at her know-it-all sister. She hated feeling so transparent in front of her.

"He just up and left me for no reason at all." She blurred out.

"Okay. What did you do?" Isolde asked with a straight face and a knowing look in her eyes.

"What do you mean by asking me what did I do?" She responded with a little shock and irritation in her voice.

"I have known your entire life. I know you never think you've done anything wrong and I also know that often this mouth of yours gets you into so much trouble. So once again, what did you do to make that yummy piece of a man walk away from you?" The accusations and the questions hit her like a ton of bricks.
