"Why won't you let me see my son?" The stranger's voice was strained as he pleaded with Luca's mother. Georgina's back was turned to him. She had no idea there was an audience to her refusal to even speak to the man.

"I have a right to be a part of his life, Gigi." He insisted.

"What rights do you have? Who told you that you have any rights around here? Why don't you take your cracker ass back home to your cracker wife? That bitch threatened to kill me if I so much as talk to you. Now, you stand here acting as if I stopped you from coming around when you know exactly who had that honor. The only reason you're interested in that boy is because your bitch of a wife can't give you any kids." She screamed the hurtful words at the man.

"You know, you are a real gem. You would deny our son the right to spend time with his father because you're mad at my wife. You knew I was married when I met you. You knew my family would never accept my relationship with a colored woman. Now you want to play the victim and act like I haven't been supporting you and My Son since the day I found out you were pregnant. Why are you busting my balls? I've done everything you ever asked of me." There was a mountain of sadness and grief in his voice.

"Lucas, please leave my house." She turned away and headed in the direction of her son who was eavesdropping, but before Luca could hide, she saw him.

"Luca, get your narrow ass in your room right now." The scream was full of anger and hate.

"Is that him?" The voice that was right behind Georgina startled his mother. It was clear she thought the man had left. Luca finally saw the man she claimed was his father. He towered above the two of them like a golden giant.

So many things which previously made no sense became clear. Luca glanced at his mother and then up to his father. Her hair was black. His father's hair was blond. Luca's hair was light brown with blond highlights. His mother was the color of dark chocolate Hershey's candies. His father was white like vanilla ice cream. Luca's skin was a slight shade darker than his father.

Many of the questions roaming around in his mind were answered the night he met his father for the first time.

In a way, Luca felt a sense of belonging from learning who his father was. However, his joy was short-lived. She grabbed the man's hand and pulled him up the stairs to her room. At first, there was so much yelling, Luca was afraid someone might get hurt. As soon as the loud voices died down, he heard strange noises that sounded like they were fighting. He was afraid to venture upstairs to check on his mother.

"Oh my god... Lucas baby... please... uhmmmm." The sound of his mother's voice was frightening. It was something he had never heard before. His parents were upstairs longer than he imagined they would be. Luca tried to stay awake as he waited to see his father again, despite the loud disturbing sounds.

His efforts were to no avail as he drifted soundly off to sleep.

A few days after he met his father, Luca and his mother moved far away from their family home. They gathered their clothes leaving everything else in the middle of the night.

"Uhhhhmmm." Luca stretched out like a lazy cat waking up from a nice long nap. He glanced around the room and realized he wasn't in his bed. A long time had passed since he thought about either of his parents. Even though his sleep was comfortable, his mind took him back to a time so long ago he nearly forgot that time even existed.

Luca finally came to his senses. The room was nice and warm. The body tucked right beside him reminded him of where he was when he rolled over to find her snuggled so close. For a moment, he studied her as she slept soundly.
