~NICE NEIGHBORS~

Torren wasn't falling for it.

Her friend was always trying to hook her up with any man that had a pulse. Because she had a really good understanding of her friend's matchmakers shenanigans, she refused to even think about the mess Anita was trying to start.

There was no way on God's green earth that Torren would allow herself to start thinking about her arch nemesis like that. She wasn't blind by far. Torren could admit that Luca was sexy as hell, but so was the devil.

All night her eyes betrayed her in one way or another by stealing glances and sneaking an occasional peak of a body that was most definitely off-limits.

She'd already learned that he wasn't some bum. Luca co-owned one of the biggest fully occupied commercial buildings in downtown Dallas. Little conversations all around them revealed that he was a serious businessman. So much of what she heard about him was going in his favor and yet, she was still unsure of her neighbor.

There was something about him that kind of scared the hell out of her. In the back of her mind she sensed that Luca was a little too perfect.

Lost in thought, she forgot he was still there. Torren had already stopped texting. Her head was angled toward the ground with her eyes drifting around as she zoned out for a moment.

When she noticed a ridiculously pimped out white Dodge Charger pulling up, Torren left whatever she was engrossed in to take a closer look at the vehicle cruising to a stop by the curb in front of her.

Torren scanned the vehicle and found it interesting that a seriously pimped out ride was an Uber car.

Well, at least I will be going home in a relatively stylish ride. She thought to herself as she walked over to the Charger and opened the door.

"Are you Torren?"

"Yes." She replied as exhaustion battle her whits in an attempt to drag her down.

After Torren confirmed that the young woman was indeed her driver, she turned to find that Luca was still standing by the curb.

"We can share the ride since we're going in the same direction if you'd like?" Torren smiled at him just before she entered the car.

Luca responded by thanking her for the ride as he walked in her direction to take the seat next to her.

~GAME ON~

Even though Luca smiled at her, his heart was ice cold. If it were possible for anyone to see what was concealed inside of him, they would know that years of maltreatment hardened him to the core.

He appeared to be amicable on the surface, but under the fake smile, Luca was warped and deeply disturbed.

~IF YOU CAN'T SAY ANYTHING NICE...~

It was a thirty-minute trip from Downtown Dallas to Las Colinas. Torren was a little uneasy sitting next to the man who up till now had been her enemy for as long as she could remember.

At first, the silence gave her a chance to collect her thoughts and sober up.

Torren mulled over her neighbor's reasoning behind the anger he aimed at her but the more she obsessed over it, the more she realized his actions were kind of strange. If he heard me say something wrong, why didn't he say anything about it a long time ago? She allowed the ideas to run rampant in her mind.
